***BREAKING*** Trump called celebrity supporter Roseanne Barr after successful series premiere

Washington (CNN)After posting gangbuster ratings for the reboot of her late 20th-century sitcom, Roseanne Barr received a call from President Donald Trump on Wednesday.

The White House declined to provide any additional details about the call, which occurred on a day when the President had no public events.
A vocal Trump supporter, Barr's revived "Roseanne" has been viewed as the latest chapter in the culture wars. It premiered Tuesday on ABC to a whopping 18.2 million viewers.
Trump has historically been highly attuned to television ratings, including his own as the host of NBC's "The Apprentice."

Greasy, tasteless, and will probably lead to an early death, but right-wingers choke it down anyway because it pisses off liberals.

The rest of us lack a President to do the things that, well, Presidents do.

Like preside.

I watched the premier, and I sure as hell don't support Spanky. And my husband, who thinks Spanky is great, won't watch because of Darlene's son.

I kind of think that they might be trying to somewhat emulate All In The Family. Yes, Barr is a supporter of the asshole, and so is her character. Some of the other characters, and the actors who play them, are not.

We'll see where it goes, but please don't paint me with a brush because I watched a sit-com. My hatred for the oaf in office is profound.

If the show wanted to be brave it could have a bunch of guys in MAGA hats bully Roseanne's gender fluid son and some members of the #resistance would defend him.

there's plenty of material to go around

Here's one: one of the characters gets tragically sick or injured and the poor Conners have to start a gofundme page to pay the bills
(I'd wager that folks that watch a lot of TV would actually donate to the fund)

In the real world, in real life, Roseanne Barr is a hateful person

You do your thing. If the TV show is that important to you, by all means go for it.

I don't think that I inferred that the show is "that important" to me. I turned on the television to watch "The Middle" and found that Roseanne was on instead. It's definitely not a "must see" for me.

I come here to DU because I feel I benefit from the kinship of those who are of the same mindset as me, politically. My hatred of 45 is profound. He turns my stomach.

I saw Barr on a talk show about a week ago telling a story about what it was like in her own family on election night. She said her family is very divided, politically. She said that one of her daughters was crying and she basically told her to get over it because more elections are coming up so we can change things. Barr is an idiot, just like my 45-supporting husband is. The can't get it through their f-ing skulls that the policies of 45 and the right wingers are a matter of life and death for many people.

So I watched Roseanne. My husband came in toward the end and saw the part where Darlene's son came home from school in his colorful attire. He won't watch again because of that, and I think it'll turn off other right wingers too.

I sort of see Roseanne, the show, as somewhat emulating All In The Family. The characters of Laurie Metcalf and Sara Gilbert are definitely not supporters of 45.

I just wish that I wouldn't be painted with a broad brush for simply checking out a show. Like I said, we'll see where it goes. I don't watch much television, and may or may not watch it again.
