Roseanne Barr said it was "exciting" and "sweet" for President Donald Trump to call and congratulate her on the record-breaking return of "Roseanne," on a phone call today with "Good Morning America."
"It was pretty exciting, I'll tell you that much," Barr said of the call. "They said, 'Hold please for the president of the United States of America' and [that] was about the most exciting thing ever. It was just very sweet of him to congratulate us."
"Roseanne," featuring the same sarcastic, blue-collar family from the original series, opened as the season's top premiere and as Tuesday's highest-rated entertainment telecast in six years. An estimated 18.2 million viewers watched the show's premiere -- 10 percent more than the 1997 finale, according to The Nielsen Company.
The show was widely praised for fairly portraying a family with differing political views. Barr was reportedly adamant that her TV persona be a President Donald Trump supporter, like she is in real life.

(7,286 posts)We are being scolded that if we don't watch the show, we should not criticize it, or the people who do
which, to me, is like saying if you didn't vote for Trump, you shouldn't criticize him or the folks who voted him in

(99,710 posts)That being said Roseanne Barr has made bigoted statements and described Trump's opponents in the most vile of ways, including calling them pedophiles.
People who hold themselves out as liberals and progressives or just decent folk should think twice about validating her.

(2,795 posts)I'll bet she mentioned that to him and I bet the orange slob is truly thinking about it. He could do a campaign rally in Lanford and the Connors can be a winner of a meet and greet at their house.
If ratings start to slip a little, I would not be surprised if she did that and Trump would be all over it! His deplorables would love it! Ratings and money gold for two odious people.

(15,593 posts)Only two mentions of Trump in first two episodes, neither particularly flattering, and lots of progressive ideas and issues in the storylines.
I think executive producers Sara Gilbert and Whitney Cummings may have put Roseannes Trumpmania in check.

(2,120 posts).... with a history of abject dishonesty, infantile behavior, selfishness, stupidity, incompetence, bluster, bullying and massive insecurity, I would hang up the phone.
I certainly wouldn't go boasting how "exciting" it was for such a "sweet" person to contact me. Frankly, I'd be sickened and annoyed.
