When the Blue Wave puts Democrats back in charge:

After this near-death brush with fascism and oligarchy, let's prioritize infrastructure fixes for our electoral system. Please.

Here's a starter list... it's imperfect and I welcome additions, modifications and substractions:

– Mandatory voting booths per capita (bring them back to the black and Latino neighborhoods the Republicans removed them from).

– Get rid of the electoral college.

– Use a simple mathematical formula for district lines to make extreme gerrymandering illegal.

– Paper trail.

– Voting day becomes a national holiday (or move it to Presidents' day.

– Automatic registration when getting drivers license, and same day registration when voting.

– True representation of voters so larger populations have more reps in the Senate.

– Third parties can have representation proportional to their membership.

– Overturn so-called Citizens United.

– Bring back a true progressive tax.

– Democratize the workplace through stronger unions.

– Expand civics curriculum in our schools.

– Outlaw cross-checking where citizens are omitted from registration simply for having the same name (yet different social security number)

– Bring back net neutrality and more: nationalize the net and insure privacy rights, no speed lanes, etc.

– Boost funding for education and boost, and deeoen, history and world literature so citizens understand the ROOTS and REASONS for democracy.

– Create a cabinet level position to oversee all of the above?

– Other ideas?

The same criminal enterprises are still thriving in this country...GOP dirty tricks, Fux Rise propaganda, clueless voters, RW hatred for Dems, tons of dirty money in campaigns, no security in our voting process, etc.

Anything faster and/or more powerful than a hunting rifle to be made illegal to manufacture, import, sell, or possess.

Gun humpers to be given a month to turn them in (with compensation), on pain of massive fines and/or felony charges.

Love that list, DemocracyMouse.

It's platform anyone of good conscience would be proud to run on - and thanks to Cheeto's excesses, ironically, this year is the best opportunity since at least '06 to run on it and actually win.

You meant the House, didn't you? Because the Senate would vote that notion down 100-0 no matter who was in power.

funded elections, without TV ads. Also, write some kind of law that limits the lying that goes on. Not sure how to do that, but, candidates should be ineligible for office if they make unproven claims about other candidates.

First, what do you mean by "third parties can have representation proportional to their membership?" My feeling is that third parties can have representation proportional to how many people they elect, as is the current case.

But I would also add:

Strip any war declaration powers from the President. Put them back in the hands of the Congress. Also, strip sole control of the nuclear arsenal from the President. The President should have to get the approval of the Speaker and the Senate Majority leader as well as the minority leaders of both houses.

Restore DACA and make it permanent.

Re-staff all departments especially the diplomatic corps. Create certain administrations positions in the diplomatic corps that can only be fired by the party that appointed them so you don't have this completely ignorant crew running our diplomatic efforts.

Also, not everyone drives, so a mail in registration form to everyone who gets an electric bill allowing every eligible house member register by mail.

I'm sure I'll think of twelve more as soon as I hit "post."

But thank hhou for a good list.
