Of course that entitled prick doesn't understand community colleges.
And of course he'd be against one of the great equity generators in our country.

(82,849 posts)What are the ways people can get ahead in society, improve their standing, and leave a better legacy for their descendants? In no particular order, there's education, good nutrition, and a living wage job that doesn't consume every last waking hour of a person's life. What are the prime targets of most Republican roll-backs affecting individuals? Education, nutrition and living wage jobs.
It's not a coincidence.

(10,268 posts)so to hell with the middle class, then. If you get yourself rich enough to donate to their party, then great. If not, then you can STAY POOR AND DIE (because they ALSO know that the more poor and alive people there are, the less Republican votes there will be).
If these idiots in applalachia would rather let the GOP kill them for the sake of a 'coal job' instead of working for a federal union wage in the Department of Energy solar panel factories that COULD be built instead, then I suppose the rest of us will just have to wait...eventually, enough of them will die that we can get what we require from our Government and Congress.

(15,805 posts)It's so depressing when I think how much work the next FAIRLY elected Democratic president will have to do just to restore the basic norms of government functions, let alone undo Trump's mess, before SHE can pursue her own policies.

(3,335 posts)California's Community Colleges have been providing affordable educations to Californians for decades. My mother left her job in a factory and went to Nursing School at a Community College in the 70's and it cost her about $150 in fees per semester, and it took her two years to complete the program once she completed all her prerequisites for admission into the program. She invited my husband's sister from Virginia to come live with her because she always wanted to go to nursing school but it would cost her $10,000 in tuition to go in Virginia. She was working as a nurse's aide in a developmentally disabled institution in VA. She came and lasted six months, and was homesick and returned home. She was raised in the country and missed her mom and couldn't assimilate I guess. She never became a nurse, but returned to her job as a nurse's aide for the next 30 years in a low wage job bathing and cleaning up after patients.

(31,261 posts)The RN's, Nurse's aides, Occupational Therapits do most of the physical work, checking charts and patient comfort, and giving medicines, the 4 year and higher Degreed Nurses are really spread out and pretty much interface with the others and do things like setting and removing IV's and readjusting dosages if doctors request that. Was amazing to see it all up close, had never before gotten a chance.

(33,999 posts)His comment about community colleges was pointed out, and I couldn't stand the thought of listening to him for potentially an hour to hear the context for what he had actually said. So I started searching for someone who had excerpted that snippet - and found the article I linked to about his prior statements about community colleges.
Too hard to keep track of all of his lies, and how many times he has repeated them.

To be competitive, to keep abreast of rapidly changing technology, to be prepared for the future and a world that is already demanding a vast array of knowledge, vocational training won't be as much in demand as it was in the past.
