It's a refrain I keep hearing over and over from RWers lately. They simply can't contain their outrage that the powers that be would latch onto these poor children and exploit them for their own political purposes. Laura Ingraham was just the latest in a cacophony of screeching voices screaming this (almost as if prompted to do so by Talking Points handed down from above).
The problem is, the more they screech about "Democratic operatives exploiting children to score political points," all I can think of is, "Isn't this the Party who's PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE found the ONE family whose daughter was killed by a person in the country illegally and trotted them out AT THEIR CONVENTION? And then proposed racially-biased legislation, as well as a $30 billion WALL as a result of this ONE story?"
And THEY'RE the ones who are supposedly "outraged" by the exploitation of victims?

They can admit that they're wrong.
So of course it's a conspiracy.

What kids today are learning:
- The louder you are the more attention you get.
- Ad-hominem attacks win arguments.
- Demonizing everyone you disagree with is okay.
- Being offended makes you right.
- And doing all of the above makes you famous.
Good Luck, America.
Apparently idiots think this is poignant stuff, when the truth is the Parkland students are an example of NONE of these things.

(15,682 posts)Since these bright, energetic students started speaking for themselves I have wondered if any of us should team up with them. If we should offer them the support of already established women's groups or democratic organizations of any kind. But it seemed, for now at least, like they would do better on their own and that we could join them at a later date to make a larger, stronger group comprised of us all.
As far as I can tell these kids have done almost all of it on their own. No one asked them to. No one told them to. And no one that I know of has exploited them. Unless you consider the other side who are trying to corrupt their message with false cries of exploitation. As always they project what they are doing or are planning to do, or would do if they could. They are afraid of these kids and have every reason to be.
