Roseanne Barr faces backlash over Trump conspiracy theory tweet

Actress Roseanne Barr faced heavy criticism on social media this weekend after posting a tweet apparently indicating support for an online conspiracy theory claiming President Trump is involved in combating a global trafficking ring tied to the "deep state."

In a tweet posted Friday night, the "Roseanne" star alleged that Trump was breaking up human trafficking rings and freeing "hundreds" of children in sex slavery around the world every month.

Journalists quickly noted that Barr's claim appeared to indicate her support for a conspiracy theory that alleges the existence of a massive child-trafficking ring linked to rogue elements in the government tied to Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party.

The conspiracy has been traced to an anonymous user identified as "Q" or "QAnon" on the online message board 4Chan. Twitter users noted that Barr has mentioned Q in past tweets as recently as November. The conspiracy theory is similar to the "Pizzagate" theory that led to a man firing shots inside a Washington, D.C., pizzeria in 2016 in an attempt to "investigate" the claims.

Barr's tweet led to backlash from members of the media, Democrats and other public figures, including former Nixon White House counsel John Dean, who slammed Barr's network, ABC, for giving her a platform.

Despite the criticism, Barr later doubled down on the message, but said she would refrain from mentioning it further because it invited "bullying" from critics.

A lot of the viewers might have been tuning in out of curiosity. Some of them might not continue to watch. And her obnoxious behavior just might alienate viewers. If people start falling off the viewing chart, I wonder if the network is legally bound to do another season.

I can't comment on the quality of the show because I've never thought she was funny, or particularly talented so I didn't watch.

Then attempts to claim her bullshit comment was for religious reasons and drawing attention to the very real issue of sex trafficking.

If she gave a flying fuck about sex trafficking, she wouldn't be posting lies - which do nothing but make a mockery of a very serious crime.

She is another person who thinks what she wants to believe is the same as what is factual and true. Even as she and others makes up their own lies to support their desired belief; each parasite feeding off the other in symbiosis, claiming each lie is another fact they've uncovered.

Her ignorance is not to be celebrated in any form on any medium. To do so is to pretend she isn't causing damage. Every lie she tells about sex trafficking only serves to draw attention away from the actual issue and make it about herself and whomever the parasites choose to blame (like Clinton). It isn't about the victims at all.

She doesn't give a damn about the victims. Neither does Trump nor any other parasite spreading lies. They make it about themselves and their chosen target for blame.

The Roseanne reboot and her public statements are calculated to generate maximum outrage and attention, but I strongly suspect she is putting on a “reality comedy” act here. Kaufman was controversial and successful doing the same thing.

She’s acting as if she is repulsive and nuts, and maybe she actually is, but I think a different, real punchline may eventually reveal itself.
