watching the screaming and hollering about the call to boycott that idiot ingraham's show--"stifling speech", "dangerous", blah, blah. blah.
funny how, when the reichians want to boycott something, it is okay. but when the free market operates (advertisers decide to pull ads rather than lose market share), that is somehow dangerous and horrible. (do you suppose they are just jealous because their boycotts don't work, and ours do?)

(24,395 posts)Reichwingers loudly dismissed our complaints about their vociferous "Shut up and sing" boycott of the Dixie Chicks after they dared to publicly criticize their (then-) "God Emperor" George W. Bush and his misbegotten war in Iraq by claiming "Free Market" rights. Well, it works both ways.......

(52,123 posts)even long-standing "principles" get thrown away quite easily when the tribe feels like it.
they care about "states' rights" only for things they can't win at the federal level.
if they can shove something like religion on people at the national level, they'll be more than happy to do it.
"freedom" for them is one sided. they want "freedom" to live in a world where they don't even have to see or hear about gay people or muslims, but of course they don't give a damn about the freedom of those people.
the healthcare mandate was conceived as a free market alternative to more government-oriented healthcare solutions. just use the government to get people to buy private health insurance rather than have the government run a big program. it originally was proposed by and had the backing of conservative think tanks. rmoney tried it as governor of massachusetts and once touted it as a success.
had mccain won in 2008 and proposed something nearly identical to obamacare, the right-wing would have loved it. you wouldn't have heard any complaints from the right at all about the mandate. in fact, the mandate penalty would have been *larger* to help pay for the fact that the right-wing plan wouldn't have had that surtax on people earning over $250,000. the right-wing would have touted it as a triumph of the free market.
for the right-wing now, the first amendment demands:
(a) that we all shut up and listen to laura ingraham and
(b ) that we all shut up and let the national enquirer silence karen mcdougal

They have absolutely no sense of irony or shame. Statements that I've heard in my past that illustrate this...
"Gay people are an abomination! Except for my cousin... He's OK for a gay guy"
"It's not the blow job, it's the perjury! Rule of Law! Rule of Law!"
They are only for free speech if it aligns with their narrow world view. They have adapted an "Us v. Them" mentality when it comes to governing, looking at it like it's as easy as picking sides during a sporting event. They express their version of patriotism through hateful platitudes and bumper stickers, but are afraid of actually supporting the opposing side's rights to express themselves in a way they disagree with.
My $.02 worth.

Now we have Trump praising Sinclair and trashing Amazon.
But this hypocrisy is nothing compared to their pass to Trump on family values. He cheats on his wife with a porn star and brags about sexual assault, but he is still the love child of the evangelicals.
