2. I just love these visuals

I use them as exercises in my classes. I put the visual up on the overhead doc cam and don't tell the class anything about it. I just ask them to interpret the chart or graph. It's really funny to watch them pick up on what it is that the visuals are saying.

As a public speaking teacher, my objective is to verbally let the class know they have to interpret the graph for their audience.

3. Great teaching tool. You might like "Sankey Diagrams":

I use them the same way: Give a stack of them to teachers and ask them to develop integrated lessons using them, usually about energy or the environment but works for anything, IMHO.
