Name one musician if you could only have the songs

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by NH Ethylene (a host of the General Discussion forum).

that the artist played on to listen to for the rest of your life.

For example for Paul McCartney you would have all the Beatles albums along with the Wings and his solo albums and assorted duets.

For me it would be Eric Clapton

But it's somewhat bittersweet. My girlfriend (now wife) and I went to Jacksonville with my best friend and his girlfriend to see the Firm on their first tour. Magical weekend all around.

On their next tour we all had tickets and we were ready to go but a few weeks before the show my friend died in a motorcycle accident. His girlfriend didn't want to go and she gave us their tickets to sell or whatever but I couldn't handle someone else sitting in his seat so I just basically sat next to an empty chair silently cried through an entire Firm concert.

But I'd still pick Jimmy Page for all the same reasons. And Mike would haunt me poltergeist style if I didn't lol.

For the past 54 years no artist has more of an impact on my life than Paul McCartney alone and with The Beatles. A big downside to becoming a senior citizen is that you experience the loss of so many people who have been important and meaningful to your life and for me one of them is Paul McCartney who is 10 years older than me but someone who I have "known" and enjoyed since I was 11 and if I were to outlive him his death would be a great loss to me.

"Twenty of my favorite drummers were all Earl Palmer."

The same could be said about Hal, who has played on upwards of 6000 songs.

He also played on seven total Grammy Records of the Year, six of them consecutively: 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971 and 1976.

And, like Earl, Hal was one of the first session players to be inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame (in 2000).

Hall did a great job compiling his song list, but sadly Palmer didn't do as well with his list because he played for so many, many artists across so many genres.

Hal was nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at Palmer's request, and he would agree Earl Palmer was the most recorded drummer in history.

As a side note, I've seen countless videos of Hal Blaine and Earl Palmer and came to the conclusion that Hal Blaine was a huge self promoter while Earl Palmer was much more laid back and reserved.

Mozza gets you The Smiths and his solo catalogue.

Coltrane gets you a host of stuff, from his early sideman gigs to his work with Miles Davis and of course his amazing work as a leader.

I’d also want to consider David Tibet (Current93, Death in June, Nurse With Wound, PsychicTV, 23Skidoo, etc.) and Amanda Fucking Palmer (solo, Dresden Dolls, tons more).

Because I’d get his solo stuff, the Heartbreakers, Mudcrutch and the Traveling Wilbury’s in the bargain. Took my 12 year old son down to Red Rocks to see Tom last summer...felt a little guilty hijacking him out of school to do it but SO happy I did in hindsight. Amazing concert and wonderful memory with my kiddo.

178. Very tough question
Sat Apr 7, 2018, 11:20 PM
Apr 2018

For the rest of my life . . .

that makes it even tougher. One of my problems is I don't like ANYONE's playbook

I'm going to name some people who haven't been named, but I'll also say Simon and Garfunkel and Paul McCartney are big with me. Leonard Cohen too.

Kris Kristofferson
Bruce Springsteen
Roy Orbison
Sam Cooke
Ben E. King
Elvis
Hank Williams
Roger Whitaker

I'm editing this to add Jay Black (Jay and the Americans). Sooooo many groups I'd love to add. Here's one person to stand in for all the rest -- the Drifters, Everly Brothers, Righteous Brothers, on and on.

That way I'd get some Fairport Convention AND Sandy Denny, RIP. Perhaps Maddy Prior for the Steeleye Span aspect. This side of the pond, probably Neil Young/David Crosby for the contributions and mashups of CSN/CSNY/Byrds/Buffalo Springfield, etc. Yes indeed, tough question.
