Fried chicken is making me lose my faith in humanity

I really hate this. Why does it have to be like this?

It's not enough for Chick-Fil-A and like-minded bigots to hate the homosexual community--they insist on an entire campaign of celebrating the hate and ginning up support for hate "Let's all go to the mall and eat fried poultry to show our support for hating a group of people. YAY!"

A few people on my Facebook and Twitter support Chick-Fil-A and my blood just boils. They glom on to this bizarre chicken franchise because the store supports their bigoted views. How ignorant, stupid and ridiculous can people be? How can they not be ashamed of themselves?

Someone on my Facebook just posted a picture of a McDonald's marquee/sign that had the message, "We support Chick-Fil-A, now try to boycott us!" The Facebook friend/poster commented, "This is fabulous!".

Really. You have unbridled exuberance about fried food served with bigotry and idiocy. Seriously?

I'm a heterosexual, happily married mom of three from the suburbs. I support my brothers and sisters who are gay. I just want to let you know that I am sorry for the moron heterosexuals who are so rude and pathetic. They are wrong. Very wrong!

I called McDonald's corporate headquarters. They told me the photo is fake and does not reflect their views. I responded to the FB post with this information and I also added that I was glad that the Chick-Fil-A nonsense had not spread to other businesses. I also said that I was happily boycotting Chick-Fil-A.

I just really hate this. I am sick and tired of hate, in the name of religion. I suppose this Facebook post will incite an argument. I don't want to attack anyone's religion, but I will not sit down and shut up when people fan the flames of hate and ignorance. I will continue to respond. If I am told that Chick-Fil-A is just letting people know that they support "traditional marriage" I will say that I support traditional marriage too--hey, I'm in one! But that doesn't give me the right to ban others from this happiness and squelch their rights. As far as what the Bible says...the Bible also says that slavery is ok and also calls for death if you wear "mixed fibers." I will ask--do you support these things as well?

We must stand up for what is right. Even if it's just a Facebook post. Allowing a celebration of hate to go on--is to be compliant. I'm sorry, but I'm just so disgusted right now. Maybe others are seeing the same kind of malarkey on their Facebooks. If you've successfully dealt with it or have suggestions for myself or others, I'm sure everyone would benefit for hearing what you said or did.

Thanks for listening.

Take for instance this:

Famed Chicago chef, Art Smith, and his husband are joining the fight against Chick-Fil-A's anti-gay marriage stance.

The pair will hold a "Chicken Fry For Equality" at their Chicago home Sunday afternoon.

They're calling it "Flick-the-Hate."

Smith is famous for his fried chicken recipe, which he has served to his former boss, Oprah Winfrey.

Smith is teaming up with the state's biggest LGBT rights organization, Equality Illinois.

Let's not tarnish fried chicken itself—a delicious staple of Southern cuisine beloved by all (except vegetarians, of course, who can have fried okra).

My mom asked why I stopped going to church (for the record it's been like 20 years), but my response was "cause it's full of people like this" (referencing the back and forth over a freaking restaurant)

I've seen some of the most hateful remarks coming from family towards gays and anyone who supports not giving their money for a dried chicken sandy to go to hatemongering that I've ever heard. I dont understand when "Love thy neighbor" turned into something that a Westboro Baptist Church protester would hold up.

Side note: I wonder if most of these fundies even know any gay people. It reminds me of my dad who is a self-professed racist. I asked him about several of his black friends and his reply was, "he's a good one". My reply was "you're not a racist".

I understand and agree with your sentiment.

However, I think this was a stupid fight to get into in the first place. Boycotts are generally ineffective and easy to counter -- and that is what we are seeing with this Chick-fil-A controversy. All the right-wingers have to do is show up and buy a sandwich to make it look like that company is being supported ... not showing up to not buy a piece of food isn't making much of a statement to the world.

Frankly, Chick-fil-A isn't worth the attention it is getting and I hope this dust-up fades away quickly ... there are many more concrete and substantive places to affect change for this cause.

What precisely leads you to believe that? From my vantage point, boycotts are particularly effective.

These off the top of my head...
Nestle gave in to Greenpeace and now has a zero deforestation policy in its palm oil supply chain.

In 2004, Oceana's boycott of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd led to the company installing Advanced Wastewater Purification technology on all its ships due to a boycott.

Fruit of the Loom crumbled in the face of pressure from the largest ever student boycott.

In 2009, Kimberly-Clark announced a new paper procurement policy that would reduce its impact on ancient forest in North America that were being destroyed for tissue brands such as Kleenex and Andrex due to a general boycott.

The De Beers boycott achieved its stated goal of forcing De Beers to sell off its diamond deposit at Gope

Zara withdrew all fur products from its stores due to a boycott.

Target to Stop Funding Anti-Gay Groups

Call it the power of the Gaga: Target agreed to stop giving money to anti-gay groups in exchange for exclusive sales rights to a special edition of Lady Gaga’s latest single, “Born This Way.” In the past, Target has donated $150,000 of corporate funds to support the political action group Minnesota Forward, that in turn supported a candidate who backed the constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. In exchange for the Gaga single, the company promised to stop such donations and will give money to LGBT groups instead. Target already pays benefits to same sex-partners of employees. Target has committed $500,000 to LGBT community projects and the retailer's vice president, Dustee Tucker Jenkins, said he hopes this gesture will “demonstrate our commitment to the LGBT

It could be that he's using it as a tax write off (which he probably is), and would rather dump it at hate groups than actual charities.

Funny aside, I actually looked up the biggest donation receiver. No WOMAN should eat at Chick-Fil-A. Since it's the same group that sponsored the Virginia Vaginal Ultrasound bill. They also work tirelessly to keep LGBT of the anti-discrimination laws (so you can fire those pesky gays just for being gay). I guess they don't care about blow back, just see it as them winning the culture war.
