(22,143 posts)I've been getting hammered with this one by my right wing Facebook opponents all day. I really don't have an answer that isn't weaseling.
It would be better if a designer gave/lent it to her to wear for the event but it seems as if she actually bought it.
We were crushing Romney for the thousand dollar t-shirt. Why is this not the same or worse?

(19,458 posts)Do your republican friends REALLY want to go there? because the republican wives have always been clothes horses who drape themselves in very expensive, and ugly clothes.
Ruby the Liberal
(26,219 posts)And for another (needs confirmed), it is my understanding that her official clothes for these events are on loan to promote the designers - why you never see her wear the same dress twice. Check me on that though before repeating it in case I am not understanding it correctly.

(22,143 posts)If it's a loaner for a state event it's easy to waive them off.

Too distasteful to post the links here, but that may help - given that they both confirm borrowing clothes and bashes Michelle at the same time. The RW'ers foaming at the mouth over this will take the information with glee because it is anti-Obama.
I used a search term Michelle Obama Borrowed Clothes.

(22,143 posts)I used "Michelle Obama jacket lent" and I'm seeing what you describe. Lots of hateful, racist things but nothing to confirm whether she owns it or not.

(25,699 posts)Assume you had as much money as either of these women for a moment. You're browsing a high-end clothing catalogue, and you see these two items next to each other, at the listed prices.
If you're Ann Romney, you spend a thousand bucks on a silk t-shirt with a print of giant koi. Congratulations, you just bought a very expensive beach towel.
Michelle Obama's selection however, looks very nice. It's cut and pattern are very flattering - it'd even be flattering on Ann, though she'd need color to offset it a bit.
It's the difference between paying fifteen grand for a burnt-out pinto, and paying sixty grand for a luxury sedan. it's not the price tag, it's the quality relative to price.
But then no one can accuse Ann of having the best taste in the world... Just look at what she married.

(19,458 posts)End of story. AND HER husband released his tax returns, and does not have money in the Cayman Island.
Nancy Reagan, btw: "Her white, hand-beaded, one shoulder Galanos 1981 inaugural gown was estimated to cost $10,000[77] while the overall price of her inaugural wardrobe was said to cost $25,000" (and that was 1980s prices.)

(24,780 posts)I think this same issue came up with Laura and they were saying "that dress" came from so and so as a donation. The media laid off her too.
