WTF! - "Santorum Singles Out Black People As Dependent on Government"

Santorum Singles Out Black People As Dependent on Government
Former senator attacks Obama policies, says he'd make blacks' lives better

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Rick Santorum added a twist to the Republican argument that President Obama wants to make people more dependent on the federal government. He singled out blacks as people whose lives he would improve without using "somebody else's money."

The comment came Sunday in response to a man’s question about foreign influence on the U.S. economy. "How do we get off this crazy train? We've got so much foreign influence in this country now," the man said. "Where do we go from here?" In a lengthy answer, Santorum talked about reviving U.S. manufacturing and then pivoted to the government-dependency theme.

"What President Obama wants to do, his economic plan is to make more people dependent upon government. To grow the government, To make sure we have more food stamps, and more SSI and more Medicaid. Four in 10 children are now on government-provided health care. It just keeps expanding," Santorum said.

He talked about how Iowa is going to get fined if more people don’t sign up for Medicaid and then said, "They're pushing harder and harder to get more and more of you dependent upon them so they can get your vote. That's what the bottom line is. So I don't want to make black people’s lives better by giving them somebody else's money. I want to give them the opportunity to go out and earn the money and provide for themselves and their families."

the bigoted right wingnuts. Who gives a crap about the truth of the matter. It feeds their fears.

This sort of thing might work for him with the truly insane, but in a general election, this is the kind of thing that would destroy him. For that reason, I cheer him on.

The attack on our social safety net is entirely based on ugly racism. Until we realize that we're all in this together, nothing will get better.

Nixon's southern strategy is alive and well in the GOP. It is the spiritual home of racists. It is hard to imagine that at one time the Republican party was the party seen as championing minority rights. The party is an amalgamation of every self-interested bigoted viewpoint that exists in our country.

Santorum doesn't want to "single out" black people on welfare in Iowa. That's good, because almost everybody on welfare in Iowa is white.

in not so clear a manner.

Rick just said it outright. I truly believe they think they don't have to hide their racism/bigotry anymore. They think the majority of the country thinks like they do.

If that were the case, we'd be in deeper shit than we already are.

He'd find out just who is dependent on whom.

Citibank and BofA don't depend on government money? Boeing and Lockheed Martin don't depend on government money?

How do we wrest control of public discourse back into the realm of reality?

My solution would be change campaign law to make any candidate ineligible for the current cycle if any of the statements they make or allow to be made on their behalf can be shown to be anything other than unvarnished truth. If "Truth, whole truth and nothing but the truth" is good enough for court, it's good enough for public office.

Racism is this country's original sin. It's the reason our social welfare spending as a percent of gdp is on par with Mexico and S. Korea, instead of being comparabe to the more conservative European nations.

This is how most of them think. Rick just said it out loud.

I'm convinced he will be embraced by Iowa as the 'not Romney' candidate. It was just a matter of time really in this GOP primary game of musical chairs. The music stops tomorrow and Santorum's surge is well-timed. Hopefully there is enough anti-Romney sentiment to propel this creepy little fuck into the lead. Obama will make short work of that mass.
