We are daily besieged by scary predictions that Trumpy could and would fire Rosenstein, Mueller, and people not yet mentioned, heightening the chaos and speeding up the clown routines in the middle ring of the circus. It could happen on a whim, any time, any day.
Now comes Guiliani, who confidently tells us that he'll negotiate a "rap-this-thing-up" act within two weeks. Okay... get in touch in two weeks and let us know how you're doing. At first impression, we end up thinking that Guiliani is acting stupid. Guiliani is living on a different planet if he thinks he'll set the agenda for Mueller. And it's just as crazy to think that Guiliani doesn't know that he's acting like a fool. So why is he giving himself a two week deadline when there are zero indications that Mueller will dance to anyone's tune but his own? I have an hypothesis.
Guiliani is calming the storm. For the short term, Guiliani is working to mollify Trumpy so that Trumpy won't fly off the handle and gut the DOJ. The ensuing chaos may end up crippling the republic beyond repair. So it's possible that Guiliani has come to understand how dangerous Trumpy is, knows that he, Guiliani, is a likely target for prosecution, and is playing the good boy scout to keep himself from a career ending indictment.
I don't like the asshole. But I'm also thinking that he knows who is buttering his bread. But I read some months ago that Guiliani got wind that he was on Mueller's chopping block, that he tried to get ahead of the curve and make a deal with Mueller, but was turned down-- because Mueller doesn't need his plea. So if there's any credibility to that rumor, it then makes sense that Guiliani's mission is to give Mueller more time before the lid blows off Trumpy's head. We're going two weeks at a time. If Guiliani's pie-in-the-sky time line doesn't come to pass, then he can try another two weeks, then another, in the same manner that Ty Cobb told Trumpy that the investigation would be over by Thanksgiving, then Christmas, then the end of the year.
Anyway, that's my story, and in the spirit of the Trumpy Era, I might not stick to it at all.
