Mitch McTurtle calls for Senate repeal vote on ACA today (from ABC)

This time, as an "amendment to the cybersecurity bill".

“I think it would be appropriate to have a vote on the repeal of Obamacare,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said on the Senate floor this morning, ” I think it would be good to offer that amendment during the pendency of the bill on cybersecurity which we believe be opening to amendments.”

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., shot down the idea quickly noting that the health care repeal vote should not be included in an unrelated bill that is focused on cybersecurity.

“I think we should understand that I don’t think a woman getting contraception has a thing to do with shutting down the power grids in America or the financial services in America or our water systems or our sewer systems,” Reid said.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. We need a rule that all bills be clean and on topic. HopeHoops Jul 2012 #2
Thats why I liked Harry Reid's comment so much. Ruby the Liberal Jul 2012 #3
Exactly. I'm not sure how we can get a "clean bill" act passed, but I'd be all for it. HopeHoops Jul 2012 #4

President Obama isn't going to be browbeaten into signing a cybersecurity bill that includes repealing his signature achievement. He'll demand it get sent back to the drawing board (if it ever got passed) and he won't suffer any blowback for it either. Mitch is pretty dumb if he thinks people are going to give Republicans prop for such a stunt.

Tucking a defense spending amendment into a bill on water chlorination is just typical (made up example, but exactly what they do). Every bill should be clean and on topic and no amendment should ever be even INTRODUCED that isn't related to the topic. That would go a LONG way toward getting Congress to function again.

Boy is on a roll today.

Reid knows he has the upper hand now. McTurtle knows he's toast.
