Seoul sees 'window of opportunity' with North Korea

Seoul sees 'window of opportunity' with North Korea

SEOUL —

South Korea’s President Lee Myung-Bak said Monday the divided peninsula is at a turning point after the death of North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il, with opportunities to improve relations.

But Lee also vowed to hit back hard against any provocations from the North under the leadership of its young new chief Kim Jong-Un, son of the late dictator.

Pyongyang kept up a barrage of criticism of the conservative South Korean leader’s government, telling them to “apologize on their knees” for alleged insults during the 13-day mourning period for Kim.

Lee, in a televised New Year address, said the peninsula’s political situation “is at a turning point. But there are new opportunities in the changes and uncertainties.”

*I am hoping the kid is not a "chip off the old block" and like his dad. Maybe things will change in North Korea? I remember hearing one story how it was he, or his cousin, snuck out of North Korea to attend a Lady Gaga (or was it Madonna?) Concert. If he's in charge now..things could look better!

So hostilities will continue. Peace lets too many people have a slice of pie, so we can't have that.
