Important (even if it is gowdy)
Gowdy admits Americans should not trust House Intel Comm review of Russia collusionshould trust Mueller instead:
House Commtee is what you should NOT have confidence in. Have confidence in the Exec Branch investigations and if Mueller finds stuff, more power to him

(44,116 posts)I think the shit Nunes et al have pulled is a bridge to far for Gowdy.

(82,849 posts)But it will be interesting to see if Gowdy's comments now get as much play as his comments then got. Because so far, I don't see him popping up on the news shows the way he used to.

(10,125 posts)Chafetz, Ryan, Gowdy, and the record number of R's (committee seats no less) leaving is an indication(They have seen irrefutable evidence I believe) that they know Dotard is going down. It would be literal political suicide to stick around for that. They can exit now, let the debacle play out, make a lot if lobby cash, then get back to politics once the stench of *45 has disipated a bit. They can ride in at that point and say they were always against Trump and left for the right reasons, etc etc and call themselves "patriots" the whole way.

I think there are some very astute chess-players or poli-scis (never thought I'd combine astute and political science) that are using the "evaluate all possible outcomes" in the governance of the US.
So, the repugs foul the nest and steal the eggs, get another democratic janitor to try to clean it up, and then come back for another round of thievery. Magpies.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)but, some Republicans might feel that the situation is somewhat similar - if Trump gets talked into resigning by some in the GOP, it will likely be because they think they can win in 2020 with the right candidate, or 2024 at the latest.
And, with the Republican ability to drive the nightly news cycle, they could be correct.

(44,116 posts)I was schocked the first time. I guess I may be shocked that he continues to discount the house investigation and say the Mueller investigation is the real investigation. But he does.

(4,267 posts)shows a tiny bit of integrity. He probably hates Nunes for some reason.
But don't be fooled. He'll vote to take your health care access away, he'll vote to privatize the VA, he'll vote to destroy the environment and pass tax cuts for the rich, he'll vote to demonize immigrants. Just like any republican, it's party before country.

(22,031 posts)Right now, the United States faces an existential crisis. Trump could break our country.
For now, anyone opposed to Trump is our ally. When we've regained our Republic and its norms, we can sort out what our new political divisions will be.

(17,187 posts)Yes, I am a cynical SOB. It's possible his time (as head of the Intel Committee, no less) has triggered his gag reflex. I'm sure I am wrong to be looking for dive-bombing pigs.
That I can't figure an angle would support the idea of his repentance, but it could also be that I am not imaginative enough, not sleazy enough, or don't have all the data.

(6,288 posts)If the true story of each RW player in pre & post 2016 was ever suddenly made known....we would be more stunned that we are now, with the small bits of revelations we are made privy to.
If for one hour of one day we were to know what Mueller knows..wouldn't that be something.

(11,885 posts)Don't believe this from the House intel committee either, and every day more comes out disputing its findings as not credible. This will also make more people realize the extent of their deceiving the American people, and will vote them all out of office for it. Their cover up could mean even more problems as the House and Senate control turns over to the Democrats, then they'll have to answer for what they've done when they head investigations , and it shows they covered up for trump, making them co-conspirator's of obstruction. That's illegal. This is backfiring badly on trump and the republicans now. The blue wave just keeps getting bigger every day against them with stuff like this coming out.

(6,916 posts)The democrats on the committee refused to sign onto the Nunes report, and issued their own.
So it is not the committee report. It is a REPUBLICAN report. The president is lying about this and the pliant media are repeating his words. Oh how I wish we had an objective media that would report the truth, not just what people say.
