A tree gifted to President Donald Trump by French President Emmanuel Macron has disappeared. The pair planted the sapling, taken from the site of a World War One battle in north-east France, during Mr Macron's state visit last week.
Mr Macron said the tree would be a reminder of "these ties that bind us".
But a Reuters photographer on Saturday took a shot of only a yellow patch of grass on the White House south lawn where the tree once stood.

As for quarantine, it is a little late to raise that issue when it has already planted in the ground.

(62,444 posts)French radio network Franceinfo quotes gardening site gerbaud.com, which says this type of oak is better planted in autumn, giving it time to grow deep roots "to face the drought of the following summer".
"The tree may be back in October," Franceinfo speculates.
Meanwhile, Huffington Post quotes an unnamed official at the Elysée Palace, who said the tree is under quarantine.

(3,335 posts)If not, that is one thin-skinned little bitch in the White House. I though that they were blood brothers with all the affection displayed. Macron gave a very good speech that was well received by the Congress and now the little bitch is pissed?
Good!!!! If a poor little tree had to be the sacrificial lamb, better it, than THE TRUTH. And this president can't handle THE TRUTH.

(15,805 posts)Have you ever tried to bring a living plant through a border checkpoint, you can't do it. Commercial importers have to take plants through a quarantine process due to diseases, so maybe the tree was taken away to some plant jail after its photo op.
My SIL law collects cactuses and succulents, and on returning from a vacay down to Baja a couple of years ago she declared the plants she bought for her rock garden. They were confiscated and the nbioder agents searched through everything looking for other contraband. She was honest about the plants and didn't know it was wrong, but it was all very embarrassing.
