(8,200 posts)I can't say what I really think of Sanders and whole damn Republican Party. Its not fit for publishing.
The situation is simple. Trump and his cadre of imps are exploiting the undereducated and misinformed. Trump and his cadre of the top 1% are duping these clowns who actually believe that their lousy situation can be magically improved by these charlatans.
They can't face the fact that the world in which a person could have a high school or even less education could make a decent living working in rote factory jobs. Those jobs are gone and never coming back. They should visit a modern factory employing robotics and automation. The robots work 24/7 without a complaint, doing perfect functions with continuous evaluation of the process to assure its quality.
I have spent hours with these people who just can't grasp the fact that their situation is totally dependent on their failure, and to an extent of society, to prepare themselves for the today's world. Yes, a certain number of jobs have been outsourced to cheaper labor markets, but they pale in comparison to those lost by automation. This runs the entire spectrum from clerical to manufacturing with the added fact that will continue unabated. That is not to say that trade agreements can not be improved. But the fact remains that the corporations have one goal, maximize profits and they have no problem with exploiting desperate workers. It is a vicious business and if they don't take advantage of every opportunity they will be quickly destroyed. The abandonment of workers from unions is also a factor that has allowed the process to go on unchallenged without adequate retraining.

(53,410 posts)It seems to be a running gag on DU lately. I dont get it in your post but I also have no knowledge of who the author of the tweet is, nor do I follow tweets in order to see responses.
On its face I dont see it. Perhaps in context it means something.
It just looks like a dumb comment to me.
EffieBlack
(14,249 posts)But you were ok believing that the author was racially stereotyping white people?
I dont see how you could possibly miss it and have difficulty seeing how you could assume any stereotyping was involved. Unless you have reason to think the author believes that every single black person thinks exactly alike and every single white person thinks exactly the same, One would have to make a huge flying leap over the satire to get anywhere close to the possibility of stereotyping.

(48,966 posts)... and there is much that whites are outraged about in terms of Trump Gang / Republicon policies and legislation that doesn't die down because of some comedian. Just like the water, killings, arrests, and arrest, the other issues are still prominent in whites' minds. Which does not negate the fact that many whites have in mind those "black folk outrage" issues you mention. Because they are absolutely more important than eye makeup jokes.
I think the divide is much more CONservatives versus liberals / progressives with regard to issues and outrage and comics.
You could cast that tweet as "Progressive folk outrage" and "CON folk outrage" and it would be just as good a point. But the way it is written does a good job of contrasting. I always hope that where there is common cause across racial lines, that can be emphasized rather than trodden on.
Further, it is really the MEDIA who are jacking up the outrage and amping up the responses so that they can keep this two day wonder boiling for another day or two to enhance their profits.

(4,035 posts)If you wonder if you have privilege and therefore have increased responsibility for rectifying the inequality, being able to threaten to withhold support if the things being said about it doesn't cater to you enough is a sure sign. African Americans are risking their lives if they don't support Black Lives Matter - they're the ones whose lives can be ended with impunity. If you can stop "fighting for the cause" if you feel uncomfortable by what is being said - you have privilege. It's not your life at risk. The same with equality, LGBTAIQ+ rights, the rights of people with disabilities and on and on and on. If your life is not put at risk should you stop fighting for the cause, you have privilege, and then the fight is actually more your responsibility than the disadvantaged group's. It means you can fight the cause with less risk, and that you get benefits you shouldn't have gotten, and that means that if you do not engage in the fight, you are a moral coward*.
*People who belong to one disadvantaged group, but not others, must judge if the situation is safe to engage in the fight - as you know, Effie, there's this thing called intersectionality that interconnects these -isms. We white feminists are generally doing a piss-poor job of fighting for equality for women of color, and that's on us.

(14,249 posts)But, i guess, seeing racism in the illegal arrest of black people is just in the eye of those who are "predisposed" to seeing racism, if a minority is involved, but a tweet that satirizes a very clear racial dynamic unfairly "discriminates" against - or as you bizarrely allege "lies about" - white people (notwithstanding that, as evidenced in this thread and elsewhere, a whole lot of white people themselves got it and fully agree with it), if one is "predisposed" to see it that way.
Honeycombe8
(37,648 posts)In your OP, you gave a list of made up things not based in fact, intentionally to slam a particular race. There is no basis in reality for the list. It's totally made up for the purpose of slamming an entire race. That is the definition of racism, which you surely know. That has nothing to do with a real situation that happened (facts), which I merely said did not, based on the known facts at the time, I was not prepared to say was racist. If you recall, you did not even know the facts at that time, since all the facts had not been reported.
Your list was a smartalec discriminatory thing, for no purpose other than to insult a race. Here is your list, in reverse.
White People Outrage:
1. The damage to the environment;
2. Wildlife disappearing at an alarming rate;
3. Climate change;
4. No inflation-adjusted rise in middle class wages in 2 decades;
5. The skyrocketing cost of a college education;
6. Huge tax cuts for the wealthy, resulting in a $1.5 Trillion Debt;
7. The lack of decent, affordable healthcare for citizens;
8. Weapons of war being out in the general public, and the lack of common sense gun control;
9. Flint water crisis continuing.
Black People Outrage:
1. Some people criticized Michelle Wolf's Correspondent's Dinner routine.
EffieBlack
(14,249 posts)It's unfortunate that you feel that it "slams an entire race" or that you feel so personally insulted. The world must freak you out on a daily basis.
Given your hypersensitivity, perhaps you should just put me on Ignore.
Honeycombe8
(37,648 posts)Given your hypersensitivity, perhaps you should just put me on ignore. When a person's logical, reasoned response to the Starbucks situation (based on years in the legal profession of seeing final evidence showing things to be different from the first blush impression)...when logic offends you because that person won't jump on your bandwagon without all the facts being known...you're too hypersensitive to carry on a discussion...you just have an agenda that you insist everyone agree with. Perhaps you should just put me on ignore. I will never jump on a bandwagon without proof. When it's you that's being attacked, you will understand, and search for, people like that.
moriah
(8,311 posts)Because before you go calling a list of the recent crap PoC have experienced lately and comparing it to all the poutage over SHS's makeup or lack thereof as "discriminatory", and suggest ignore functions here be used, remember that PoC can't simply hit a button and make all the racism in their life go away.
You're highlighting your own privilege by even suggesting it.
The ignore function should not be a replacement for keeping DU a safe place for PoC.
Sailor65x1
(554 posts)That poster was responding to the exact same statement made to him/her. News flash; nobody at all in the world can use a button to make problems all go away, but here on DU, shockingly, the "Ignore" function works exactly the same for everyone.
moriah
(8,311 posts)... dismissed as hysteria, she can just hit ignore.
Doesn't surprise me EF used the tactic back when it was actually appropriate, what sadly wasn't surprising that the person who felt so discriminated against because the other victims were black and SHS is white (if anything, more insults white people by us having to admit she shares our race) had kept digging the hole deeper.

(7,488 posts)Statements about reason, context and not wanting to join a bandwagon will fall on deaf ears. For some on here the "enemy" is their fellow DUers. It's sad, wrong and counterproductive, but they don't care. They will not be silenced. Anyone who doesn't agree with every thing they believe must be attacked personally.
There's a reason these type of posts get so many responses. They do no good except ego gratification and, if the intent is to divide, work well.

(14,249 posts)A flight attendant on the American Airlines flight in April 2016 tracked down a doctor on board who examined her. She may have had a panic attack, the doctor said. But it soon became clear her condition was far worse.
About an hour later, Ms. Oswell, 25, collapsed in a lavatory, defecated and vomited on herself, and threw up on flight attendants who had come to check on her. The doctor returned and this time issued an urgent request to the flight crew: The pilot must land the plane immediately.
The frenzied efforts by her husband and the doctor to save Ms. Oswell, who died three days later in a hospital of a pulmonary embolism, were detailed in a wrongful-death lawsuit filed this month by her family against American Airlines. The lawsuit alleges that the airline was negligent and ultimately contributed to her death because the pilot did not heed the doctors pleas to divert the plane and an onboard defibrillator and blood pressure monitor were faulty.
...
At that point in the flight, the lawsuit says, the plane was over New Mexico, with about two hours remaining in the flight. Her parents argued on Friday that the plane should have diverted to Albuquerque.

I think a some of the folks who are calling this divisive are ignoring the fact that a cop standing on the hood of your car and blasting away through your windshield (and getting away,with it) and having the cops called on you for golfing while black are two points on a continuum, not separate incidents. By ignoring, or excusing, the former (e.g., "Brown was the aggressor," "Bland cussed the cop," "Selling untaxed cigarettes is a crime" and other assorted drivel), they trivialize the whole of racial oppression as us getting kicked off of golf courses. All of a sudden racism turns into nothing more than just not being nice to each other and the solution becomes a big group hug (SHS included).
