Michelle Wolf says she 'wouldn't change a single word' of her correspondents' dinner routine

It’s been less than 48 hours since Michelle Wolf said White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders burns lies and uses the ash as eye shadow at the White House correspondents’ dinner.

In that time, Wolf has been lauded as a political and comedic hero and decried as a cruel and offensive bully. Her routine has been dissected, commented on, examined, praised and trashed in hundreds of articles by seemingly everyone with a keyboard.

Former press secretary Sean Spicer implied that her performance was a “total disgrace” (to which Wolf tweeted “Thank you!”). It even led to New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman and comedian Kumail Nanjiani bickering on Twitter (first about Wolf’s performance and then about who unfollowed whom).

Really. This is a real news story that is really happening. And throughout it all, Wolf hasn’t said much, aside from a few tweets.

The comedian finally — though “finally” is a poor word choice because, again, it’s been less than two days — weighed in on the situation in an interview with Terry Gross on WHYY’s “Fresh Air.” The full interview will be available Tuesday afternoon, but NPR released Monday some choice excerpts from the conversation.

So, the question on everyone’s mind: Does Wolf regret her routine and the cyclone of controversy that followed? No, not even slightly.

“I wouldn’t change a single word that I said. I’m very happy with what I said, and I’m glad I stuck to my guns,” she told Gross.

She added that before her performance, a friend handed her a note that said: “Be true to yourself. Never apologize. Burn it to the ground.”

Stockholm Syndrome is real, and gaslighting works, because the White House press corps circled the wagons around the woman who does everything in her power, day in and day out, to destroy them. I've never seen anything like it. It's like watching a bunch of chickens swarm all over somebody who's only trying to get rid of the ax.

Folks, Sarah Slanders regularly assaults the very freedom of the American press. She is literally an ENEMY OF FREEDOM. She collects a taxpayer-funded salary to espouse shamefully anti-American ideals. She is not misguided, she is not in over her head, she is a bad person with evil intentions. Once we've finally pried our beautiful country out of these petty fascists’ claws, SHS will take her place alongside Joe McCarthy as one of America's great villains.

Unfortunately with this line:

Once we've finally pried our beautiful country out of these petty fascists’ claws, SHS will take her place alongside Joe McCarthy as one of America's great villains.

I would have to say, that we do not seem to have anyone fitting the description of Edward R Murrow or Joseph Nye Welch, who really took it to McCarthy and Roy Cohn during those horrible times. Our journalism landscape seems to be all about access and ratings, not on presenting the facts and doing what is right for the nation.

Back in the Murrow era, it was still understood news was a loss leader. In exchange for that valuable FCC license, networks were expected to add health to the nation by supplying information. They were the Fourth Estate, holding the other branches accountable.

These days, most of that has been abdicated in a rush for ratings and profits. That's why 24/7 cable news channels run with the same handful of stories, hour after hour, relying on panels of screaming pundits to fill time instead of reporters hired with the network's ever-expanding revenues.

Investigative journalism is costly and slow. That's why it gets axed early when print media takes it on the chin.

The word the haters heard was “fat” not “facts” and that drove them into their false hysteria.

I think the right wing used the opportunity for outrage, regardless of what was actually said. It was manufactured.

I think some media used the opportunity because they didn't like the light in which Wolf cast them, calling them out for their complicity and gains in a train wreck of governance.

Michelle Wolf stayed true to herself, and the truth she spoke raises a mirror to the elites and powerful in the USA: media, the corporate world, and government alike.

I am also impressed with all the great DU'er responses above my own. People here get it.

This bullshit outrage bullying by the RW needs to stop.

Make them PROVE their fake claims.

I'd bet good money they heard "fat" instead of "facts" and "ass" instead of "ash" and lost their minds.

And the "journalists" who jumped to Liar Sarah's defense can go take a long walk.

and took it back today. Why apologize? She did her job...she roasted the fucking moron who was a pussy for the second year in a row as a no show. He and the RW and Fux Ruse can dish it out royally, but they can never, ever take it! Who are the real snowflakes? She didn't call him anything close to what he has been saying about anyone and everyone he chooses for almost 3 years now.

F'ing GREAT for Ms. Wolf!!! Stephen Colbert's star turn at the dinner was a watershed event in W's Presidency. While that was a once-in-a-lifetime, perhaps a once only event, I'm hoping this puts at least a crack in the dam.

WTF has happened to the so-called independent press??? They are all but co-opted into being the Oval Office Pravda.
