It's HIPAA, people. Write it down.

Not HIPPA or HIPPAA or however else you feel compelled to spell it.

HIPAA stands for Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.

I post this not to be a dick, but because:

1) I work with it every day, and it drives me crazy when I see people misspell it.

2) Because when you invoke "HIPPA" when you argue with right-wingers, they will laugh at you, and deservedly so.

So that they don't laugh at you, too.

Bottom line, when I see someone start a comment with "Well, they can't do that, because of HIPPA blahdy blah..." I immediately assume the person doesn't know what they're talking about, particularly when it comes to HIPAA.

My partner deals with HIPAA in his work. He was appalled that I received a voice mail in the middle of the night telling me my patient, Miss Johnson, had expired in the nursing home.

Apparently, leaving voicemails like that is a HIPAA violation. Especially so since I own a contracting business.
