How We Live Now: Trump Has Been Normalized

While everyone was distracted by the faux outrage over the White House Correspondents' Circle Jerk, President Donald Trump was in Michigan, giving one of the most ragingly unhinged speeches of his entire unhinged rage oeuvre. It was so bugnuts, barking crazy that, so far, it hasn't showed up on the White House website, and every other incoherent yawp that his mouth shits out has made it onto there.

Trump gets to normalize his ridiculous buffoonery because no one is holding him to account. Right now, all our eggs are in the Mueller basket (well, maybe a couple are in the Southern District of New York basket). But Robert Mueller's investigation depends on a Congress that is willing to act and on a public that is willing to support action. And I honestly think that Mueller could have ironclad evidence, recordings even, that prove that Trump absolutely conspired with Russia on the election, and almost all of Trump's idiot horde would say it was fake news. You could show them a video of Trump clapping while hookers pissed on a bed and Vladimir Putin massaged his prostate and told him, "We've hacked the machines and you're going to win," and they'd still say, "MAGA, libtard snowflake."

By making his behavior normal, that which deviates from it is now abnormal. This is how we live now, with a constant stream of outrage that has grown into white noise.

At that Michigan rally, in every pause, audience members were yelling, "Thank you" and "I love you" to Trump. What are they thanking him for? He hasn't done anything but make their lives worse. They are thanking him for being mean to immigrants and making it safe for them to be openly racist.

And that might be the most frightening normalization of them all.

They view these rallies as a good old fashioned tent revival, but it is more about letting loose frustrations about their perceived Caucasian/Christian persecution. Now George W was also transparently unfit, but at least he had some kind of pedigree, and had speech writers, like Frum, to make him sound semi coherent.

But Palin was a whole new animal. Chosen for her loose mouth with Tea Party talking points, and her Barbie Caribou looks to appeal to horny white Republican men. Hey it worked for Fox News!, why not?

Sure SNL and Tina Fey did wonders to show who she really was, and other comics, but the MSM news continued to pretend she was a viable candidate. Even though they were being attacked as if they really were biased for simply asking her things like what papers she reads. How dare they ASSUME a future VP reads anything?

But long after almost everyone, at least every Democrat leaning person and even others who were nonpolitical, knew she was unqualified and had a few screws loose, the MSM was still trying as hard as possible to bite their lips and not break out laughing, and put on their serious face and treated her like a qualified person, and shrunk back every time a loud Republican chastised them for daring to question her credentials.

11. What I've said about Bush

in comparison to Trump is that Bush knew he was not the smartest guy in the room. Trump thinks he's a very stable genius and the best dealmaker ever.

The other difference is that Bush was able to find corrupt and incompetent people no matter their race or gender - Condi Rice, Alberto Gonzalez, Karen Hughes, Rod Paige, etc. Trump has stuck with mostly older white men so far.

Someone on TV would mention that Trump supporters/Republicans act like absolute assholes to liberals, women, homosexuals, non-whites, non-Christians and anybody else that doesn’t agree with them about everything. I get so fucking tired of hearing about how conservatives are fed up with being picked on by “liberal elites” and nobody throws it right back in their fat fucking faces.

Liberals should be mean to Trump supporters. If anything, people aren’t being nearly mean enough toward them. There is no appeasing fascists, and pretending that these people would be more reasonable and less hateful if their targets were kinder to them is engaging in dream-world bullshit.
