In our actual daily lives, most of us have no problem applying good old-fashioned common

sense in forming opinions of those with whom we deal on a daily basis. Over time, we come to know who is reliably honest and who lies whenever it's convenient or profitable. Given the choice, we'd rather associate---personally and professionally---with truth tellers. We avoid having any contact that is not absolutely necessary with the liars.

But, in our cable TV/internet lives, we seem to have decided that common sense is somehow inapplicable. Why, otherwise, do we give a rat's ass what Trump orPence or Sarah or Rudy had to say about ANYTHING?

"Who you gonna believe: me or your lyin' eyes?" USED TO BE a joke. Nowadays, it ain't the least bit funny. It's "just the way things are."
