'We're not suckers': Giuliani says he won't let Mueller 'trap' Trump into perjury

Rudolph W. Giuliani, a new attorney on President Trump’s legal team, said Thursday that special counsel Robert S. Mueller III is seeking to “trap” the president into committing perjury with a request for an extended interview.

“What they’re really trying to do is trap him into perjury, and we’re not suckers,” Giuliani, a former New York City mayor and federal prosecutor, said during a morning interview on “Fox & Friends.”

Giuliani, conducting a fresh round of media interviews Thursday seeking to bolster Trump’s standing, asserted that the original aim of the special counsel — to investigate possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia in the 2016 campaign — is now “dead.

“This silly deposition is about a case in which he supposedly colluded with the Russians but there’s no evidence,” Giuliani said.

If you don't want to perjure yourself, don't fucking lie. It's that simple. The truth will set you free.

So, you have to decide which pit you want to jump into.

For Trump, a "perjury trap" is asking him to say anything under oath. Period.

Donnie's very mistaken if he thinks Rudy has any clout with the FBI or DOJ (except for Sessions).

to pay the legal consequences. That's not a "trap", it's the law and the president is not above the law.

His client trump has no intentions of being truthful , causing his own problem from lying to him. Just like it applies to everyone else, but trump wants special treatment, or no rules apply to him, ever. He refuses to be truthful to the American people , and has lost all credibility , and no one should take anything he says as the truth. He's just another criminal in the White house, like Nixon was.

8. If 45 has nothing to hide then there shouldn't be any concern.

If, as they maintain, 45 is completely innocent, then there's no need to worry about perjury. I mean, Santorum just recently said he's never heard 45 lie. So, what's the big deal?

in the context of it being a) real, and b) unfair, is a person speaking in bad faith. This is one of those areas where presuming mere ignorance is a charity I don't extend.

It's real simple: tell the truth, lie (i.e. commit perjury), or invoke your 5th A rights against self-incrimination. There's no trap, and there's nothing unfair about it.

11. Here's what's going on between the lines ...

... Trump is already in a trap. But it’s one of his own making.

1. He can tell the truth, and reveal that he’s guilty of the substantive allegations against him.

2. He can lie, and be guilty of perjury (and probably still the substantive allegations as well).

3. He can plead the fifth.

He doesn’t want to plead the fifth. He thinks - correctly - that will make him look bad with his base.

His lawyers cannot let him answer any questions because #s 1 and 2 are no win scenarios.

So he’s blustering and tweeting and sending out surrogates to stall until he figures out a way to cut the investigation off at the knees, or figures out how to take the fifth without embarrassment. But that’s much easier said than done.

This was the rock and hard place Dowd and Cobb were stuck in. Giuliani has merely taken their place. Nothing else has changed.
