Trump's Lawyer Went to the Worst Law School in America

Politico:

The roster of the school’s graduates includes federal and state judges, two members of Congress and several high-profile courtroom lawyers and business leaders.

But whatever the accomplishments of its most distinguished alumni, the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan, once the largest law school in the U.S., does not have a reputation to match. And it never has.

Cooley may be, by some measurements, the worst law school in America. And its standing has not been enhanced by a flood of publicity about the quality of the legal work of its best known and, increasingly, most notorious alum: Michael D. Cohen, class of 1991, President Trump’s longtime personal lawyer and the target of a federal criminal investigation in New York that has clearly rattled Trump.

The school is sensitive to the headlines: “In light of the current publicity about Mr. Michael Cohen, one of our graduates, it is disappointing to see all the gratuitous negative comments about our law school from people who know nothing about us,” the school’s general counsel, James Robb, said in an impassioned written statement to Politico. “What I am seeing is incivility and bullying by people who truly know little about legal education—and especially about our fine law school.”

6. They are based in Michigan.

Up until recently they only had locations in Michigan. Then they decided to branch out and open a school in Florida. I worked at one of their locations. The school was started by Justice Brennan. Yes, it has a reputation of being a fourth tier law school, but as with most post secondary educational institutions there are some good professors and excellent students and then there are the losers. There are some shady overpaid people in administration and some excellent employees. They also have a reputation of serving populations who would not be able to get a law degree at a big law school and at my location at least, they had a wonderful professor who did tons of pro bono work for immigrants.

2. No college can guarantee production of high quality graduates!

From engineering college of a big 10 university, I graduated with a master's degree in engineering. Then I entered the real world of industry. What I learned in college was only about 10% of knowledge I acquired over 37 years in industry.

My point is, a college only prepares you to learn more. It is all upto the individual to keep learning and gaining from actual job experience.

I am sure same is true of Law colleges.

to other law schools. (To be fair, I do know someone who went there who was decently smart and has a fine law practice now).

5. Sure hope you're not talking about Governor Engler.

I know you're not, but he's another GOP loser who did go there. Now he's the gratuitous interim president of MSU and working under a cloud of "no confidence" filed by students and faculty.

was an absolute disgrace. One reason the board gave was that Snyder was more likely to work with a Republican, which tells you everything you need to know about Snyder. He has to work with a Republican to right the wrongs done to all those young women?
