Good news for California!

(CN) – California surpassed the United Kingdom to become the fifth largest economy in the world in 2017 with a gross domestic product of $2.7 trillion, according to new federal data released Friday.

California’s jump to fifth place in the world ranking represents an increase of more than $100 billion from 2016. The Golden State now ranks above the economies of United Kingdom, India, France, Brazil, Italy and Canada, according to the California Department of Finance.

Much of the credit goes to California’s robust environment, population diversity and range of climates that promote a strong agriculture industry according to Kadee Russ, associate professor of economics at the University of California, Davis.

“California has done a good job of growing its university system that promotes innovation, but also provides technology to other industries, for example the agriculture sector,” said Russ.

...what years is that? I've got you beat, my people have been here much much longer....the USA crossed the border, we didn't.
Enough of that though. I have wondered if some of those fires last fall could have been purposely set to undermine the CA economy?

The next time Trump and Sessions bitch about us being a sanctuary state, or otherwise try to punish us for voting overwhelmingly for Hillary, or recognizing LBGTQ rights, or trying to take care of our citizens -- we can just say, "Fuck you, we're going to be our own country!"

Unlike most red states, California is a "maker" state. We pay more into the federal government than we get back in benefits.

Suck it, Virginia.

That helps explain California's rise from 9th place in 2010 to 5th place today. The North was doing the heavy lifting for a long time.

Last year Los Angeles joined NYC and Tokyo as the only metropolitan economies with a GDP above $1 trillion. Nationally, if L.A.-O.C. was its own state, its economy would rank 4th behind California, Texas, and New York.
