Over abortion!
Where are those voices when this priest stands up for the actual teachings of Jesus?? Paul Ryan sure ain't no catholic, no matter how he was raised. That asshole is an Ayn Rand acolyte and apologist and her teachings are the antithesis of the teachings of Christ. Why is this asshole not refused communion???

(16,846 posts)The RW essentially controls the airways on "talk radio", add in Fox News which purports to be "fair and balanced" even though it's no such thing, and mix in the Sinclair buyout of many local news channels across the country...and it's easy to see how many Americans are suckered by RW memes!! The extremely sad icing on the cake is that mainstream media outlets are far too willing to give "Extra Time" to RW nutters, because they don't want to appear as too left leaning and risk the "liberal media" label!

(14,854 posts)You don't get to say whether Ryan is Catholic and neither do I. The Church gets to decide that, and the Church says Ryan is Catholic.

(16,846 posts)What I'm saying is why would some in the church suggest that pro-choice politicians be refused communion and not hold people like Ryan who want to steal from the poor to the same standard.

(1,188 posts)were "useful idiots" when the evangelicals needed the abortion issue to help get control of the country...
Overly simplistic, but there's a kernel of truth there....

(28,071 posts)and yesterday there was a right wing jerk commenting on this story in the Minneapolis Star Tribune making it clear that he didn't think Catholics could be considered Christians.
I think most Catholics thought all this was left behind when JFK was elected, I hope they wake up and start to realize who they've thrown in with.

(7,408 posts)Catholics were Christian long before Martin Luther got the ball rolling on the Protestant Reformation. Whether you like it or not, those folks headquartered in Rome are the original branch.

(28,071 posts)And never doubted that we're Christians. I have run into Evangelicals who disagree.

(114 posts)Most people are familiar with the Ku Klux Klan's activity in the South, but a lot of people aren't aware that the Klan had a strong presence in the North too. Only the northern Klan had more of an anti-immigrant focus. And since so many of the immigrants of the late 1800s and 1900s were Catholic (or Jewish), the northern Klan soon became anti-Catholic and anti-Semitic.
I've been telling conservative Catholics for years that the right wing Evangelicals are NOT their friends.

(68,455 posts)hear the preacher say that Catholics weren't Christian...my Dad was Catholic and my Mom Baptist, they compromised on the Episcopal church...I still go now (not every Sunday to lazy but most). I pretended illness and left. I won't sit thorough that. It was not uncommon in Georgia to here folks disparage Catholics, and we had more than a few Mormons who were shunned completely. There kids not allowed to play with Evangelical kids.
