He gets paid millions of dollars a year for his legal services, despite the fact that he's a terrible lawyer.
He also makes a ton for giving speeches, even though he comes across as unhinged and whiny each and every time.
He's remembered as "America's mayor" even though most of the revitalization of NYC was the result of the Clinton economy, the Clinton crime bill (however one views that legislation, as well as his own Giracist and constitutionally questionable police policies.
And he turned himself into a "hero" of 9-11, based largely on talking tough and staged appearances, even though the one thing his office actually did that had a direct impact on the rescue efforts - purchasing the radios used by first responders - was laden with incompetence and corruption.
Say what you want about the guy, but I'm not sure I've seen a better job of fooling the public for such an extended period of time.

(29,193 posts)at the WTC even though many experts said that the WTC was a target (it had been bombed previously to 9/11)
"Since 1999, New York Citys Office of Emergency Management, charged with coordinating all aspects of the response, had occupied permanent headquarters in Seven World Trade Center, on Greenwich Street, just north of the landmark twin towers. A vital communications link was the radio repeater system based on the ground floor of One World Trade Center, the north tower. The loss of those facilities and key personnel working there significantly hampered the response."

(26,044 posts)...was to come on-air and make the sort of decent, calm, empathic statement one would expect from any official which, with Dubya jumping from Undisclosed Location to Undisclosed Location on AF1, occasionally releasing pre-recorded messages to the media which, otherwise, had no idea where he was, made Rudy look like a great leader by comparison.
Since then, he's tried to profit of that one achievement, much like an unremarkable grown-up ex-athlete in a small town still keeps on reminding everyone on how he threw the state championship-winning touchdown for the local high school team thirty years ago.

Yes, I know a lot of this is considered to be in the realm of conspiracy, but there is absolutely no doubt that there were too many odd coincidences and a gazillion unanswered questions.
