I never thought I would see the day

John McCain retired from the Navy on April 1, 1981, as a captain. ... His numerous military decorations and awards include the Silver Star Medal, two Legions of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, three Bronze Star Medals, two Purple Heart Medals, two Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, and Prisoner of War Medal.

John Kerry won a Silver Star, a Bronze Star, and three Purple Hearts.

I never really much agreed with McCain's politics, but I absolutely respected his service to our country.

I voted for John Kerry when he ran for President, but, we all know how that worked out.

It absolutely galls me to hear Lyin' Donnie Bone Spurs mocking these two fine men. And I have seen comments on line from right wing zealots who say the most disgusting things about McCain, it makes me sick to my stomach. I can't even repeat them here, they are so vile.

I surely hope that the type of comments I have seen belong to a very small minority of twisted minds. How they can disrespect two courageous military veterans and worship a cowardly, lying sack of shit who lies, cheats, and mocks military veterans, it's just beyond me.

I don't even know how to end this or what to say, other than, again, I hope those twisted assholes, so miserable and so full of hate, are in the minority of our population.

Will it be awkward when he refuses POWs a place in his parade?
After all, Donald does not like soldiers who were captured.

...was highly decorated. Here's an excerpt from wikipedia:

In July 1968, he was sent to South Vietnam, where he served as a rifle platoon leader with Second Platoon, H Company, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, 3rd Marine Division. On 11 December 1968 during an engagement in Operation Scotland II, he earned the Bronze Star with 'V' distinction for combat valor for rescuing a wounded Marine under enemy fire during an ambush in which he saw half of his platoon become casualties.

In April 1969, he received an enemy gunshot wound in the thigh, recovered, and returned to lead his platoon until June 1969. For his service in and during the Vietnam War, his military decorations and awards include: the Bronze Star Medal with Combat "V", Purple Heart Medal, two Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals with Combat "V", Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three service stars, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Parachutist Badge.

. . . he has earned my unflagging respect, not only for his decision to refuse an early release in Vietnam (when nobody would have blamed him for accepting that release), but also on two other occasions: (1) when he reminded his Senate colleagues that torture (by the Army and CIA) is "not about who they are, but about who we are" (at a time when much of the country had indeed forgotten "who we are"; and (2) during the2008 campaign, when a woman at a rally said of candidate Obama was "an Arab." -- McCain, without hesitation, took the microphone from her, shook his head and said, "No, ma'am, he’s a decent family man, a citizen that I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues, and that’s what this campaign is all about.” That may be the last time we saw such grace and decency in a presidential candidate; certainly it was the last time any Republican exhibited it.

To be sure, McCain has had his share of all too human faults and failings. But those three incidents tell me that in spite of some obvious shortcomings, there is something in the man that is profoundly worthy of great respect, even though I could never support him politically.

have always respected him. I knew that he could've gotten out of that POW camp (because of his father) and didn't because he didn't want to leave his fellow soldiers. dt CAN ROT IN HELL!!!
