Sheila Jackson Lee calls on Ron Paul to apologize or leave presidential race

http://blog.chron.com/txpotomac/2011/12/sheila-jackson-lee-calls-on-ron-paul-to-apologize-or-leave-presidential-race/

Among the racially charged newsletters published under Ron Paul’s name, one example is particularly odious to Houston Democrats.

One of the newsletter articles described Rep. Barbara Jordan, a Houston Democrat revered in the civil rights community, as “the archetypal half-educated victimologist, yet her race and sex protect her from criticism.” snip

Jackson Lee likened Paul’s situation to then-candidate Barack Obama’s predicament when controversial statements by his pastor, Jeremiah Wright, threatened to derail the Chicago Democrat’s 2009 presidential campaign.

Obama “gave a landmark speech on race to explain his views on race and the history of race in America,” Jackson Lee said. “Mr. Paul should do the same.”

Seems to me he's doing the opposite and running away from them.

Don't care much for Paul, but I see no evidence he's trying to spin the newsletter story to his advantage. I don't even see how he could do that even if he wanted to. He's been in damage control mode since it broke and clearly wants it to just go away.

The racial undertones of this GOP primary are starting to bark.

But it's not like he's the only Republican candidate who's not exactly a champion of those living in poverty. And it still doesn't have much to do with the newsletters anyway.

He got it barrels from the media and his opponents on that one, but I don't think it will cause him to lose all that many votes. Many Paulistas are like cultists and would back him if he announced he was a reptilian alien in disguise. Plenty of swing primary voters probably don't think the newsletter content is that important anyway. It was a while ago and many probably have similar sentiments on some of those issues.

that Paul was recently on TV comparing Social Security and Medicare to slavery, I don't see an apology, and certainly not a sincere one, coming from the lunatic.

excellent!

“Ron Paul cannot continue to pursue the position of the presidency of the United States of America without formally apologizing and discussing his true positions regarding these newsletter writings,” Jackson Lee said in a statement."

Of course not. Be honest.

The kabuki theatre of making a politician apologize isn't about the actual apology or forgiveness. No, it's about making your adversary do a sort of Walk of Shame in having to publicly apologize.

And then the other side (in this case, that's us) continues attacking the offensive speaker.

That's how it worked after Richard Durbin's pathetic blubbering apology on the Senate floor. Did his critics say "all is OK! All is now forgiven!" No. They just kept right on bashing him.

Given the guy's views on race and other things, even if he did apologize, I think it would be empty & meaningless.

Far better educated than those who would criticize her. I doubt any of these people ever heard her speak or knew anything about her credentials. She was overqualified for the job, even in back in those days and light years ahead of these tea party nutters.
