Comey explains why he didn't confront Trump

BY MAX GREENWOOD - 05/08/18 09:41 AM EDT

Former FBI Director James Comey acknowledged on Tuesday that he did not confront President Trump on false statements during meetings with him.

Comey said he did so because he wanted to remain in his role as the nation's top cop.

“In my situation, my judgment was I’m trying to stay in a role for another six years, protect and represent an institution, so I need to find a way to build a relationship with the president and make sure the conduct lines are abided,” Comey said in a live interview with The Washington Post.

“I’m standing there in the first five months of a president’s tenure, where I expect to be there for his first four years and then beyond,” he added.

Comey said that in meetings with Trump, the president told a number of falsehoods, such as boasting that his inauguration crowd was the largest in history.

Go along to get along

That might work out with your average workplace politics but at this level it is a dangerous and irresponsible tactic.

How many tyrants could have been stopped by people of character standing up to them early in their rise?

What people don't realize is, is that the dynamics of interpersonal relationships doesn't change much no matter the level of power.

It's true in a middle school classroom, fast food fry cooks, CEO to Vice Presidents, and tyrants to henchmen. We are all just a bunch of kids that got older.

Powerful people, whether its the Pope, Ghandi, Mother Theresa, or Hitler, Pol Pot or Trump - Their bodies and ego are just as fragile as anyone else's. But they stay in power because people around them are desperately trying to syphon off a tiny bit of that power for themselves.

The cult of personality is weird and scary thing.

They’ll sacrifice their dignity and the country for money and power. And then there’s people like Sally Yates and Preet Bharara.

To not go down in history as a spineless man who helped give the world Trump!

All his excuses and apologetics are old. He needs to disappear.
