Anything that has to do with Iran (or anywhere in the Middle East, for that matter) has to do with oil. The reason we invaded Iraq was for the oil. The reason we helped Britain assassinate Mossadegh was because of oil. The reason anyone deals with Saudi Arabia or any country that has horrible human rights records is about oil. The infrastructure for oil is already built and there are still many trillions of dollars to be made from it before it becomes obsolete. It is a big game to the kleptocrats. And we (developed and developing worlds alike) continue to expend energy as though it will never run out and will never cause our planet calamity beyond repair.
