But I also think that they know Trump is very temporary and does not really reflect the U.S. as a whole. Most countries get a real stinker as a leader now and then, so I think or at least hope, that they know this too will pass.

my daughter would chat with people from other countries while playing games online and they pretty much understood that GW didn't reflect most Americans. Though I don't suppose they thought we would or could do even worse.

Makes me almost literally shudder to think about a future when we’re aghast over what could possibly be worse than trump???

I learned to not believe that things couldn't be worse. Who one earth could have imagined such a vulgar, immoral man in the White House? Apparently there is no bottom, which is a terrifying thought.

During the Bush administration I flew to Europe wearing a T shirt that read:
"I'm sorry my president is an idiot -- I didn't vote for him" in four languages.
I'm going to Europe again, and though I've been looking for that shirt, haven't found it...I guess I threw it out, not thinking I'd ever need it again.

that we would do worse, much worse than Bush and in such a short span of time?

Bush was a terrible, incompetent president, but at least he came across as somewhat human. Now we have an absolute monster in the White House, who has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. I'm afraid to even think we couldn't do worse, as that was what I thought during the Bush years.

It feels like we went to post-apocalyptic without even bothering with the apocalypse.
