Nothing catchy or snarky or particularly profound, but maybe this is worth your time.

We are a very diverse group here at DU. There are liberals, progressives, moderates and those most would call "conservative" Democrats. We have some who will always vote for the candidate with whom they most agree and we have pragmatists who support the most electable Democrat even when they'd personally prefer someone else. It's all good.

Our differences pale beside the principles we share. I will not make a fool of myself by even trying to list specific ideas and beliefs most of us have in common, but I think the following general principles are what brings us here to "fight the good fight".

Without requiring adherence to any religion, we do our best to live by the Golden Rule: "Treat others the way you like to be treated". That general approach to life over-arches most of what follows.

We are tolerant.. We don't really care about your gender, your age, your sexual orientation, your skin color or your material wealth. We are interested in whether you are kind and tolerant and honest.

We believe that the pursuit of justice for all is one of the fundamental duties of any legitimate government.

We believe that the success of any society is measured by how well it treats "the least among us".

We have the courage to openly speak truth to power no matter how "red" our community is.

With so many important common traits, surely we can find a way to work together in all our varied home states, counties and precincts to elect Democrats who, like us, are a diverse group but share the majority of our core beliefs. Surely, we can try to persuade rather than criticize; educate rather than pontificate; and "Treat others (here on DU) the way we'd like to be treated".
