Holder/Obama group spent $50,000 on successful Ohio redistricting ballot measure.

Washington, D.C. — Tonight, Eric H. Holder, Jr., the 82nd Attorney General of the United States and Chair of National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC), released the following statement on the election results in Ohio:

“The redistricting reform passed today in Ohio makes it much harder for politicians to rig elections through gerrymandering and gives me hope that we can restore fairness to our elections in states around the country. Ohio has proven that when citizens work together to demand their elected officials support a fair redistricting process, positive change is possible.

“This fall, Ohioans have the opportunity to support strong Democratic candidates who will have a seat at the table when new state and congressional lines are drawn in 2021. I look forward to supporting Richard Cordray for Governor, Kathleen Clyde for Secretary of State, Zack Space for State Auditor, and Democrats running for the state legislature who will fight for fair districts. I also look forward to supporting my friends Steve Dettlebach for Attorney General and Rob Richardson for State Treasurer.”

The National Redistricting Action Fund, the 501(c)(4) affiliate of the NDRC, invested $50,000 in the Coalition for Redistricting Reform in support of voting Yes on Issue 1.

Ohio is one of NDRC’s Electoral Targets for 2018. Under the redistricting process in Ohio, the governor, secretary of state, state auditor, and members of the state house and state senate can all play a role in how new maps are drawn.
