Here at Wendy's on South Street, by Lakewood Bod, near Los Angeles; and the same drive thru window gal says the burgers are the same size they've always been.
Puhhhllleeeaaassseee.....
1st of all, she's too dam young to make such a statement.
2ndly, this consumer is 61 years old, and he knows the real history of Wendy's (BullChit about Dave having daughter {Look up - Judy's} ).
Additionally, everybody's burgers are getting smaller.
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm going to keep buying the 4 items for $4 because the doublestack is a cool deal for $1 and Wendy's nuggets are the best.
The 50 cents Frosty - this month - is awesome!
That being said - DAM!
Look at these pictures. My hand hasn't grown. The sandwich is barely bigger than 2 nuggets or 2 sauces. The handle on my stickshift is dang near bigger.
How long will it be before we need a Microscope to See the $1 specials?
Just sayin........

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/in-new-wendys-ad-will-people-see-founders-daughter-or-obesity-crisis/
Last Updated Nov 15, 2010 2:00 PM EST
A new ad for the Wendy's (WEN) burger chain is sure to get people talking, but possibly for the wrong reasons (video below). It stars Wendy Thomas, daughter of Wendy's founder Dave Thomas, who is not the rail-thin actress who played her in ads as a little girl.
Obviously, no adult remains the size they were as a child. And it's difficult to separate the hypocrisy involved in the monitoring of women's body sizes compared to men's. But given the debate over the role of fast-food in the U.S.'s obesity crisis, Wendy's may be taking a risk by using Ms. Thomas.
The product being advertised is "Dave's Hot and Juicy" burger, which features two meat patties, two slices of cheese, and some salad inside a "butter-toasted bun." Ms. Thomas has an appealing presence and there is something charming about knowing that the girl for whom the company is named is a franchise holder decades later. But commenters under Ad Age's item about the new campaign (from ad agency The Kaplan Thaler Group) have zeroed in on the negative side:
TommyDeVito: Don't mean to sound impolite, but given all the controversy connecting obesity and fast food, it seems peculiar--even dumb--to connect Ms. Thomas with the restaurant. And it's all for a new, ultra-big cheeseburger! The advertising agency should have politely discouraged their client from putting herself in a bad position. What was Kaplan Thaler Group thinking?
rwabels: I agree with Tommy DeV. It woulda been better if Wendy didn't look like she was raised on fast food! But Dave wasn't so svelte himself, so she is who she is.
Commenters on the Las Vegas Sun's site -- the new product is being tested in Nevada -- are more kind, although seven of 22 comments were deleted by a moderator:
revtomperl: Often the best man for the job is a woman. Hmmm, well good luck to ya, Wendy!
Wendy's has been in an eight-year search for a new direction in its marketing since Dave Thomas died in 2002. Sales are down through the first nine months of this year. Adfreak has a series of posts on Wendy's marketing that, taken together, show a company in desperate need of consistency and direction. Recent ideas included using men in red pigtail wigs. And did you know that The Violent Femmes have refused to play together again due to a split over whether they should have allowed Wendy's to use "Blister in the Sun" in one of their ads? In addition, the massive ad budget of rival McDonalds (MCD) and the offbeat marketing of Burger King (BK) have somewhat eclipsed the square-burger chain.
Wendy Thomas may or may not be the face to turn the chain around, but she is sure likely to get the short-term attention the chain needs.

(31,956 posts)Dave Thomas wasn't exactly svelte, either. And he appeared in many ads.
Double standard, much?

(7,805 posts)This is the real story ....
I know, be a use I had a scholarship chance at Candy, for BB; but hurt myself (had to red-shirt 1 year) and thr Alumni got me a job at the Pizza Hut that was across the street from Pizza Inn, where we were next to General care Corp's "Judy's"
It wasn't Dave who came up with the idea...
Dave Thomas managed fried chicken places that were failing, so he turned them into KFC.
He had an Assistant Manager who came up with the briluant idea on how to beat McD's and Burger King by non-frozen hamburgers (hot n juicy).
The guy had a daughter named Judy's.
When Wendy's exploded, Judy's owner proved it was his idea; and Nashvile Tenn General Care Corp backed the Judy's chain.
Problem was - doesn't matter who "thought" up or "created" the idea; because the issue at hand was who "owned" the rights.
The 1st one was Judy's and the "creator" owned 60% of the profits and 90% of that first entity funded by Dave.
However, Dave gave the greedy Judy's guy a hook, baited with "fine print" - that gave away the house on every restaurant after the 1st one.
General Care Corp was right, Dave Thomas was not the inventor of the meat chili, non-frozen hamburger (delivered fresh daily).
But General Care Corp was 100% Wrong, on who owned the rights to a certain method of marketing. They could have competed, with Wendy's had the "inventor" showed General Care Corp the whole set of facts, about selling his rights away.
Instead, General Care Corp had to shut down 100 Judy's and pay $10 million for infringement.
Now, if you want to hear an even bigger deal, ask me about "L.A.S.E.R."
Just sayin..

You can buy three chicken tights for $4 or less and a head of corn for $1.50 more and make three nutritious meals (take the skin off the tights and trim off the fat before cooking). You can buy 5 4 for 4 meals with $20, I can eat for 10 days with that much and end up healthier than you. Excess isn't always the best thing, I learned that the hard way.

(31,261 posts)I think that I pointed out last week that too much sugar cause my skin in shielded places to develop scabby bumps and white topped dry spots. So I don't eat sweet stuff unless there is no other choice. But, if I had kids, I would treat them to cookies and ice cream enough to keep them content, while explaining my skin condition as they get older, because they may deal with their own issue around it one day. I think parents that absolutely deny kids things because the parents won't touch them are making a big mistake, if the kids grow up respecting the parents, they will naturally copy most of the parent's choices.

I called Bigelow, their response was laughable: "Our customers told us they wanted more conveeeeenient packaging". Ha! The last time was when I called Starkist and asked "How long before we're buying 1 oz. cans of tuna" after they shrunk the size from 7oz. to 6.5 to 6 to 5. Their response? "Oh sir, we took out mostly liquid".

(33,643 posts)Is absolutely not.
A container of good quality ice cream should feel dense/heavy when you pick it up, and the high-end brands like Haagen-Dazs and B&J's do, and Dreyers is reasonably thick as well ... cheaper brands you pick up the same 'size' container and you can really feel the weight difference. That's cause the cheap brands are basically selling 'whipped' ice cream.

(33,643 posts)I'd probably go there often ... dunno why they don't, it'd go PERFECT with their fare, and I love a nice sweet, salty cobbette with chicken fingers and good cole slaw ... but they don't have corn on cob, and their slaw's kinda weak, their 'texas toast' bread is terrible (imho) and their fries average at best. Never eat the bread coz its yucky- even my dog wont eat it! The chicken is OK but the sauce is good!! The OK chicken becomes much better when its dipped in that sauce! The problem is wages havent kept pace with the inflation.
KY_EnviroGuy
(14,489 posts)(I got out of high school in '65) I remember when gas would go up a penny or two and folks reacted like it was the end of the world.
I think the drive-in theater was 50-cents a head. So, date night including gas, movie and a burger and drink for two was 5-bucks max.

(33,643 posts)I think Smash and Habit Burger make the best burger for the money of all the bigger-chain joints (though I'm sure they're not everywhere ... yet). And of course the venerable In&Out.
Neither of them are really much more than a 'fast food' burger, price-wise and they're FAR FAR superior, taste and quality-wise. Smashburger also gives out coupon's by the butt-load and for every $100 you spend you get $10 back if you use their app. In fact, Smash Fries (with the olive oil/rosemary) are easily my favorite fast food fries, Habit's a close second, and Habit's Onion Rings are also stellar, second only to Culvers onion rings which are the BOMB ... they also make a reasonably decent burger, but not as good as Smash/Habit/I&O.
I pretty much go to big-chain fast food only when oddly craving Jack's tacos or chicken strips (still my among my fave chix strips anywhere) or Oreo Shake, or them big ol' KFC potato-wedges which are also, when fresh, pretty kick ass for fast food.
The 'value' menu's at all those places are pretty much CRAP, other than Jacks tacos (or Wendy's chix nuggets). I always order 'em extra crispy w/extra lettuce & sauce. If you eat them IMMEDIATELY, they're awesome for $1.29.
Every now and again I'll crave a few Taco Supreme's from TB too ... always feel terrible after, but, again, if you eat 'em immediately, they can be tasty.
