From Daily Kos:
Summary: A lithium-ion battery plant in California is moving to Kentucky coal country, bringing 850 good, current technology jobs.
Details:
EnerBlü, a company that makes rechargeable lithium batteries for mainline energy grids, microgrids, and electric cars, has transplanted its headquarters from Riverside in southern California to Lexington, the western edge of what used to be the heart of Kentucky coal operations. That will also be the site of its research and development center.
But there is a bigger, potentially more important project coming from the high-tech company: the establishment of Energy Innovation Park in Pikeville, on the eastern border of Kentucky, where 37 Appalachia counties are mired in economic stress, as bad or worse off than the bottom 10 percent of Americas 3,113 counties. The $400 million, million-square-foot EIP operation, located on the site of the former Marion Branch coal mine, will feature four manufacturing facilities, including a lithium battery factory.
Yes, I understand this means the loss of jobs in California, but, CA can replace the jobs. This is what Hillary had in mind for coal country -- good to see she's winning.

(3,515 posts)We in California don't have enough housing for everyone who lives and works here. West Virginia and the rest of coal country has housing and room to build more. It's great that the factories are moving there.

(14,490 posts)They will be near the University of Kentucky and not that far from the University of Louisville, whose engineering dept. is doing a lot of energy research.
Also, Pikeville is smack-dab in the poorest area of the state that mining has left behind. This will help tremendously with improving their schools and infrastructure.

(25,467 posts)Because the sentence where Hillary said she'd be putting coal miners and coal companies out of business was taken out of context and repeated endlessly:"If you were already primed to believe the worst about me, here was confirmation."
I've had the book since last year but haven't finished it yet because I get too angry at how easily Americans swallow propaganda.
