Kevin Feige Confirms Plans To Introduce Muslim American hero to the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Fans are very excited to see the first female solo film from the Marvel Cinematic Universe starring Brie Larson as the titular character Captain Marvel. While doing an interview to promote Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel chief Kevin Feige was asked if another female Marvel character would be introduced and his answer is definitely what fans wanted to hear.

When being asked about Captain Marvel, the question arose if Ms. Marvel, a female Muslim hero from the comics with ties to Captain Marvel, would ever be considered for the MCU. Feige then responded that there are in fact plans to bring the character Kamala Khan to the big screen.

Ms. Marvel, who also goes by the name Kamala Khan, was created by editors Sana Amanat and Stephen Wacker, writer G. Willow Wilson and artist Adrian Alphona. Khan is Marvel’s first Muslim character to headline her own comic book. Khan made her first appearance in Captain Marvel #14 (August 2013) before going on to star in the solo series Ms. Marvel, which debuted in February 2014. Khan is a teenage Pakistani American from Jersey City, New Jersey with shapeshifting abilities and assumes the mantle of Ms. Marvel from her idol, Carol Danvers after Danvers becomes Captain Marvel.

I don't want to be so snotty as to say I 'outgrew' comic books when I was a kid. But I don't read them anymore. Haven't for decades.

But I sort of re-discovered them when I learned that they have been an important source of liberal and progressive ideas and ideals since at least the 1930's. Still don't read them, but I'm glad they're out there, helping guide young minds toward progressivism, and away from right-wing hate.

(I say that knowing full-well that some comics have also often depicted highly-reactionary attitudes, as well...)

A school librarian couldn’t get a Muslim interested in reading anything until she saw the comic. After that, she was always first to pick up the latest issue.
