Does Anyone Else Find the Melania Kidney Thing a bit Hinky?

Last edited Wed May 16, 2018, 01:06 PM - Edit history (1)

No prior announcement I am aware of.

She will be in the hospital all week for a procedure that usually requires an overnight stay max.

Could there be some reason she needs to be kept out of sight a few days?

I didn't even know she was ill, finally figured I'd take a moment and look.

If she had a cancerous kidney removed, as long as the malignancy was contained, nothing further needs to be done. A friend of mine had a cancerous kidney that was discovered by accident during another surgery, got it removed immediately, and is still going strong now 30 years later (he is now 77).

Whatever else is going on with her and her odious spouse, cancer SUCKS royally (my parents and all their siblings had it, and my wife has had it twice). I hope she doesn't have to suffer the slow downhill spiral this disease inflicts on those that get a terminal dose of it. NO one deserves that (OK, for Mitch McConnell and Dick Cheney, I MIGHT make an exception).

When we de-humanize people with whom we disagree, that's where a lot of problems happen.

De-humanization is the stuff I see a LOT of coming from the Trump crowd. Leads to racism, misogyny, homophobia, and all sorts of hatred.

Just because Melania is married to a jerk, and just because she has supported many of his views, doesn't mean we have the right to de-humanize her. I guess we could de-humanize her, but that just makes us similarly guilty of that which we hate.

The passive aggressive martyrdom, mixed with some real cold blooded doubt of the basic decency of anyone who disagrees, delivered as "concern" is fascinating.

I mean, I was impressed by the bald faced nerve when you asked me if I "thought that people should be treated humanely or not," but I hadn't seen this.

I knew this the holier than thou mean girl in high school who, when we asked what she thought of the prom theme, she said, "I'm not really a fan of prom. I was raised as decent Christian girl. But you all have fun!" Then when everyone rolled their eyes, her jaw drops and she says "What???? What do you have a problem with - Christianity or decency?" Laughter from all of us. "I will pray for you all that you don't get raped. I'm just trying to be nice to you people. Why are you so mean? I guess you just hate Jesus." More eyerolling.

Yeah. People can spot that kind of backhanded "concern" a mile away. And she really thought that she was a puppetmaster of shaming, poor kid.

In addition to derailing by condescendingly using privilege in the words of "calm down, now..." you are also skilled at derailing by affirming the consequent fallacy!!

Someone disagrees with you about a joke a comedian made, and you blow that into contradicting MLK himself, and everything he believed about non-violent protest!

But if you want an example, I would refer you to Martin Luther King Jr...who preached non-violent resistance. He spoke against using violence, because he believed that it would hurt the cause for civil rights. So he advocated civil disobedience, but insisted that the temptation to do violent things would be counter-productive.

I think MLK was smart, too.

Martin Luther King said we should not go low and be violent.
I think Martin Luther King Jr is "pretty smart"
If you disagree with me that a comedian's joke is sexist,

You like to whip out Gandhi and MLK as your "source of wisdom," when someone disagrees with you, no matter what the topic is, in an attempt to equate disagreeing with your words as disagreeing with the wisdom of Gandhi and MLK.

So, Ollie, be the change, like Gandhi says. Try not to be so defensive, be like MLK and turn the other cheek. I agree with them, and think they were pretty smart, so I suggest that you give their wisdom a try. It works for me. You'll be so much happier if you do. 61. Kidney transplants mean 2-3 days in the hospital.
Wed May 16, 2018, 11:41 AM
May 2018

The operation takes 2-3 hours. Recovery time in the hospital is typically 1-3 days. Donors often are able to return to work as soon as 2-3 weeks after the procedure.

Occasionally the kidney needs to be removed through an open incision in the flank region. Prior to the use of the laparoscopic technique, this surgery was the standard for the removal of the donated kidney. It involves a 5-7 inch incision on the side, division of muscle and removal of the tip of the twelfth rib. The operation typically lasts 3 hours and the recovery in the hospital averages 4-5 days with time out of work of 6-8 weeks.

Although laparoscopy is increasingly used over open surgery, from time to time, the surgeon may elect to do an open procedure when individual anatomic differences in the donor suggest that this will be a better surgical approach.

disclose the details of any medical treatment, illness or surgery she may have had. I know that some like Betty Ford, Nancy Reagan etc have used medical issues they have had to use their prominence to get information out to people, some of whom might have early warning symptoms of the same disease. Even for those who do not rise to that level or who are not politicians, many have done this and it has saved the health or life of others. I KNOW women who blew off mammograms - who scheduled them after hearing about Elizabeth Edwards' diagnosis.

We have no idea what her precise medical issue is - and she has the right to her privacy if she so chooses. Many of the posts on this thread, not yours, suggesting battering by Trump, suicide, plastic surgery etc make us look both terrible. Imagine that this was Michelle Obama or Hillary Clinton who were in the hospital. How would we feel if similar comments were made on the right. (In real life, we did have the RW suggesting that HRC was (and is) suffering from something terrible.)

I hope that Melania Trump is back in the White House soon and that this was no big deal. If there is a medical problem, I hope we are better than the Republicans who hoped that(either) Clinton's health would fail.

127. So, you're calling people who don't agree with you being like "Russian Trolls?"

And your posts are doing little to nothing to "unite" and it sure looks like that's not your goal.

You enjoy trying to shame people who don't agree with you, which is the opposite of trying to be united.

Simply disagreeing with people is fine. Trying to make them believe that you are the embodiment of the ideas of Gandhi and MLK doesn't work.

You seem fine with trying to get a rise out of them, by telling them to 'calm down' when they aren't upset.

IF is not a difficult word to understand. It is only two letters.

Please, consult a dictionary!

IF I were a Republican or a Russian troll....

......I would pretend I was a Democrat and make light of Melania's illness.

Passive aggressive equating them with what you claim people are doing here.

Please, consult your posts before doubling down!

This was not an attack on anybody!

I used the word IF to say exactly what i posted.

You have a history of 1) following my posts like a blood hound, 2) mis-representing what I have said.

You haven't changed much, I see.

does this give you satisfaction in life?

passive aggressive, condescending attempts to goad them into attacking you, if you can't get them to validate your feelings.

Your posts are evidence enough of that - I only need copy and past your words. No misrepresentation needed.

Does this give you satisfaction in life?

things like some have would be a way to make Democrats look bad.

Do you honestly think speculating in a nasty way on why a person is in the hospital is good? That's not the way I was raised or how I raised my daughters.

Nobody is shaming anyone. I was simply quoting Ghandi and King to add to the discussion.

And you are getting bent out of shape, more by the minute!

Surely you don't want to silence me and object to these icons being quoted?

that I believe in the teachings of MLK and Gandi, so I just can't. I respect human life too much. Attempting to shame people with passive aggressive comparisons to Russian and GOP trolls doesn't promote unity, people!

My hope for you is that you will find peace, and be able to validate your own feelings, instead of attempting to shame others into doing so.

You are fine the way you are! You might run into conflict here on DU, so until you are ready to deal with that, I recommend focusing on your breath, reconnecting with nature. That's not silencing you at all, my child.

That's simply imparting the wisdom of teachers like MLK and Gandhi to someone who might benefit from it.

Surely you can't object to that! Breathe, Ollie, breathe.

Namaste.

But yes, if Hillary even sneezed, the vultures would be carping that she's "too old and frail."

of judgemental as to tell other people that they shouldn't.

I don't think that it matters one way or the other to the future of the Democratic party, or our chances in November.

I don't see a need to scold people or try to goad them into attacking me, under the guise of "we need to all play nice or people are just not going to support us!!" like others here seem to.

Since we saw 65 million votes pretty much discarded like trash, we need a way to fight back against plutocrats, evangelicals, oligarchs, and pizzagaters ruining this country since voting alone is not doing the trick.
