April 2014
A firm led by former Republican governor and congressman Buddy Roemer is investing millions into The Young Turks Network to significantly increase its content, sales, and platform presence.
The investment of $4 million, with an option to go up to $8 million, came out of a conversation Roemer and The Young Turks Network founder Cenk Uygur had backstage before speaking at a conference about money in politics last year. The relationship between the conservative Louisiana politician and the founder of the progressive media outlet stemmed from both making the removal of moneys influence on politics their signature issues.
Fast forward to yesterday's announcement:
The Young Turks Launch 24-Hour YouTube Channel
The new channel will run TYT programming 24/7, including The Young Turks, TYT Interviews, NerdAlert, What The Flick?!, Think Tank, and Pop Trigger.
snip=================================
TYT generates over 200 million views a month and ranks number one in News and Politics on all digital platforms in the 18-24 demographic.
Nothing says "let's take the money out of politics" like accepting a $4,000,000 - $12,000,000 investment deal from a Republican multimillionaire.

(4,533 posts)He is not a typical Republican. Those here will support some of his positions. He had supported efforts to reduce corruption in government. TYT retain editorial independence and have strong financial incentives to remain liberal, incentives far greater than the potential benefits of additional Roemer funding. TYT can get new funding from many sources and are not under Roemer financial control.

(182,778 posts)I'll pass. Alex Jones stormed their "set"at one of the conventions or a debate (I think) and Cenk clearly knew he couldn't do anything about it. Looking back that was a red flag.
