Nixon's crowd went down. I think the same is happening to Trump's crowd. I recall one obvious trait that Nixon had, and Trump has: Arrogance. Total belief that they could get away with "anything." No major consequences. Nixon's people tried to intervene in Johnson's negotiations with Viet Nam. Trump has indeed intervened with Russia. The future is indeed hard to see. Hopefully, we will all see the end of this...relatively soon.

I don't remember Nixon saying that the FBI was part of "Loser" McGovern's Democratic plot to take him out, or that the plumbers were really Democrats working for "Crooked" Ted Kennedy.

(38,359 posts)I believe he knows exactly what is happening to him and why. He knows he has broken the law, and his family has broken the laws. In his private business, he would declare "bankruptcy" and start over. If that "bankruptcy" screwed a whole bunch of people, well that was too bad.
Here he is in a different situation. "Bankruptcy" would be "Resigning" and he isn't ready to do that yet. He knows he is in trouble, but his attitude and his belief system say he can con his way out. That is what all the lies are about. Trump is conning his way out, cause it worked for him in the past. (in his opinion). Guliani is trying the same thing. My guess is in the long run this will fail. But I cannot see the future any more than any one else.
