Everything about Trump's dealings with North Korea has been impulsive, disjointed and bizarre.

From the way the summit was scheduled.

To the way the summit was cancelled.

To his tweeting about "Rocket Man"

To his tweeting about his "button"

To his comments on "fire and fury"

To his claims that Kim "really was excellent" to the three American men he agreed to release from hard labor camps.

To his letter cancelling the summit, which both encouraged a future summit down the line and also threatened nuclear war.

I understand that there's such thing as "carrot and stick" diplomacy, but this wasn't it. This was legitimate mentally incompetence on display.
