BERLIN. Jan. 7. 1934
The Karlsruhe Football Club has been prohibited from playing throughout 1934 because the team failed to give the Nazi salute on entering the field against a French club at Nancy in December. The abstention was alleged to be due to the Frenchmen threatening not to play with-out the promise of compensation if the salute were given because they feared that the spectators would indulge in a riot.
All the sports clubs of Baden have been for-bidden to accept French engagements until the incident has been settled.

A message from Essen states that two professors controlling the hospitals there have been sentenced to three and four months' imprisonment respectively for having falsely disparaged Nazism.

A business man and a typist have been sentenced to Imprisonment, and another typist has been fined £100 on similar charges.

I read something recently that equated lust for sports with patriotism, or at least that trumped up by the owners.

Thanks, Deceitful Donald.

Yes. He's so big on this branding stuff. Let's brand HIM now.

President Trump has many limitations, to put it mildly, but he is brilliant at the dark art of branding. Those seeking to hold him accountable had better study his technique — and learn to fight fire with fire.

Witness how Trump is trying to use the word “spy” as a weapon against the FBI, the Justice Department and special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s investigation of Russian interference in the election. The president’s performance this week has been totally dishonest — and, let’s be honest, quite effective.

But the US Constitution gets the shit all over it treatment - but not a squawk is heard.

Praise the symbols of Americana, the flag and the national anthem. But the bedrock ideals of "Freedom and Justice for All" is a meaningless cliche young children drone on about and recite in elementary school - but has lost all practice and relevance in adult society.

Feel good propaganda, sophisticated perception management, a distant mirage - but not really worthy of the time or effort to really make it so.

All women and men are created equal - is that only meant as a fucking joke ?

The humor and laughter escapes me. America can be so much better than that - if we would only try.

We now have pregame Nuremberg moments before nearly every sporting event. My thoughts have always been, the more zealous one is about patriotic symbolism, the more likely they are to wipe their ass with The Constitution.

Was a German Football Club Banned After Failing to Give a Nazi Salute?
News reports of a German football club's getting banned in 1934 after failing to give the Nazi salute are real, but the team's actions were not in protest of the Third Reich.

Snopes:

The Karlsruhe Football Club was scheduled to play in Metz, France on Christmas day in 1933.
The French players reportedly threatened not to play the match if the Germans used the Nazi salute.
The Karlsruhe players
were also also reportedly worried that the salute could cause fans to riot, and
decided to forego the Nazi salute in order to play the match; when word reached Berlin, the team was banned from playing outside of Germany for a year.

is if someone gave the nazi salute in Germany nowadays, that person would face the potential
of arrest and prison time.

Some might not like it, but exercising your 'free speech' cuts both ways.
