This is why Ryan won't get rid of Nunes:
https://upload.democraticunderground.com/10028865654
From March 28, 2017. I am copying the whole OP here:
O'Donnell tonight: Ryan at center of Nunes scandal. R in as deep as N; this why R won't remove Nunes
O'Donnell again tonight showed clip of Ryan saying he "had to brief the speaker first" before going to WH. Asks, "Why are no reporters picking up on Ryan involvement in Nunes scandal? Ive showed this clip three times of Nunes saying he had to brief the speaker before he did anything else, and yet no one is picking up on it."
"Ryan is at the center of the scandal. The press apparently didnt hear it when he said it in the WH driveway when he said he first went to Ryan before going to the WH. Everything he did after that would have been at the direction of Ryan. "
"The Nunes scandal is Paul Ryans scandal. That is why Ryan wont remove him. Ryan is in it as deep as Nunes is. If Nunes can lose the chairmanship over it, Ryan can lose the speakership over it. "
I have wondered myself why more aren't picking up on this, even on DU. See this thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10028850749
for O'Donnell show video and transcript from Thursday where he raises this question of why no one seems to be picking up on Ryan's involvement and says Nunes is covering up for Ryan; that Nunes fell on his sword for Ryan.
This is very important; it means Ryan is colluding as well as Nunes! Not only colluding, but directing Nunes. Much more in the thread from the Thursday show linked to above, but O'Donnell feels it so important that he brought it up for the third time tonight.
He also had former CIA director on telling why it was critical to Nunes and Ryan to stop Sally Yates testimony.

(6,376 posts)some time ago of a meeting of the house, Kevin McCarthy, Ryan where it was mentioned that Russian money was being taken and Ryan shut it up real quick, saying "we have to keep this in the family"
That is a fucking smoking gun and I have never seen it again anywhere. Someone leaked that video and it has disappeared off the news completely. Only republicans were at that meeting and it's my guess that Evan (last name ? from Utah) leaked it and he said there were more tapes.
Am I the only one who saw this?

* Catchy or "clickbaity" title
* Time of day
* What else is going on (on a hot news day, a different important story won't cut it)
* Who posts it
* Lord only knows what else

(2,275 posts)Dear DU editors:
Please start a new category called "smoking guns" and make a link to this story. It could be modified over time, but could be a clearing house for the bewildering array of bad news. Only the most key stories which rise to the level of a "smoking gun" would be posted. Maybe DU members could vote on which stories rank as such.
Just a suggestion, and thanks Amaryllis, for reminding us of that outrageous recording. The Rebublicans are traitors. This is so unbelievable (until you hear the tape).

(84,917 posts)Im no legal expert but sure seems to me weve had a few near-smoking guns by now. I keep asking - how is this NOT collusion? And yeah, I know, the legal term is not collusion but rather, conspiracy. With all these moving parts and multiple players, conspiracy does fit well also.

(11,837 posts)"Wanting to spend more time with family" is the time-honored fig leaf.
The more modern version is perhaps "Wanting to spend more time with family before prison."

(5,108 posts)He's always been an overrated lightweight. It seemed as if he didn't want the Speaker's job, and no wonder. He was really ineffectual. Joe Biden really began the Ryan "unmasking' during their V.P. debate. I'm pretty sure that Paul won't suffer any discomfort financially, however.

(2,577 posts)Why do you think SO many members are running for home as fast as their little feet can carry them? They know their party colluded with an enemy of our country so that Rethugs could control the government. They know they are totally owned by Putin and Russian oligarchs. Nunes is trying desperately to avoid prison.

(52,482 posts)He has been funneling $$$ to the GOP from foreign "investors" and he is STILL in the position! This is why McConnell was able to hold onto the SCOTUS with such certainty and why Ryan has allowed the moron to get away with murder. Half of the GOP has been financed with contributions that are illegal. This is the really big deal that the media is afraid to report.

(38,783 posts)The media is only as liberal as the conservative corporations that own it*. Do the corporate officers & shareholders of the news corporations (& other corporations, too) really mind if the US goes fascist? Remember CBS CEO touting the Trump may be bad for America but he was good for ratings. As long as they continue to make money, do they care?
Everyday the Con is in office I fear we are closer to losing our country.

(52,482 posts)and they haven't learned anything from the election when they followed him around like puppies while no one was interested in discussing the issues with Hillary.
Yesterday, after 24/7 news about the meetings that Dems would be blocked from and how it was unconstitutional, etc the media spent a nanosecond on the follow up story. They did not discuss it, what info was in it, how to stop the GOP from doing it again, strategies, what the is means for future similar situations,...nothing was discussed as follow up. They are worse than click bait with their viewers and the next, new distraction.

The firm is touted for pioneering the use of technology in political campaigns, and it represents GOP candidates nationwide. The firm's website said one of its principals was formerly associated with a firm operated by Paul Manafort, who is the former Trump campaign manager whose business dealings with Russia are under intense scrutiny.
Strategic Campaign Group's national clients include the Tea Party and the Conservative Majority Fund. The local client lists include Maryland state House Minority Leader Nic Kipke, and Delegate Pat McDonough used the firm while running for Congress.

President Obama thought he was telling them stuff they didn't know but they already did and didn't want to stop it. Lawrence's piece reinforces this and it should be the preface to every discussion about this whole charlie foxtrot.

(187 posts)From what I remember about this article Ryan was asked by the reporter about the conversation, the reporter did not mention he had the recording, Ryan said the conversation never happened. The reporter then told Ryan he had the transcript, Ryan replied that the transcript was wrong.The reporter then said he had the recording, Ryan replied they were just joking. The conversation happened before the Republican convention in 2016. Knowing about Treason and not telling the FBI, is Treason.

(187 posts)I emailed Ryan about this recording almost nine months ago and then again after he announced he wouldn't be running. I told him good luck on his retirement the first time I wrote to him. Imagine my surprise when he said he would not be running. I also wrote to him about knowing about treason and not telling the FBI, is treason. Does he think that by allowing Nunes to commit obstruction and goodness knows what else that negates his crimes?
