Tammy Duckworth posted this picture on twitter. It is the best post I've seen in several days.

"One day, our nation’s flag will drape my coffin, just as it did my Dad’s and will my husband’s and brother’s. I will always stand on these legs for the flag and anthem, but it was ALSO my honor to defend people’s right to free speech..... including those who choose to #TakeAKnee to express outrage at the glaring disparity in how Americans of different races are treated"

I don't use twitter, but someone posted it on facebook to a group I'm involved with and it blew me away. When I came to post it to DU, I searched to see if someone else had already posted and couldn't find anything, so I did. Crazy about Sen. Duckworth!

proud of many things, but I am proud to be from the state that gave birth to so many great Americans, like Martin Luther King, John Lewis, Jimmy Carter, Andrew Young, Ray Charles, James Brown, Otis Redding, the Allman Bros., Oliver Hardy, Roland Hayes, Doc Holliday, Gladys Knight, Alice Walker, Joanne Woodward, Jessye Norman, Blind Willie McTell, Johnny Mercer, Howard Finster....

(snip)

In January 2018, following a federal government shut down after the Senate could not agree on a funding bill, Duckworth responded to President Trump's accusations that the Democrats were putting “unlawful immigrants” ahead of the military:

“I spent my entire adult life looking out for the well-being, the training, the equipping of the troops for whom I was responsible. Sadly, this is something that the current occupant of the Oval Office does not seem to care to do — and I will not be lectured about what our military needs by a five-deferment draft dodger. And I have a message for Cadet Bone Spurs: If you cared about our military, you'd stop baiting Kim Jong Un into a war that could put 85,000 American troops, and millions of innocent civilians, in danger."[60]

Duckworth became the first U.S. Senator to give birth while in office in 2018.[61] Shortly afterward, rules were changed so that a Senator has the right to bring a child under one year old on the Senate floor and breastfeed them during votes.[62] The day after those rules were changed, Maile became the first baby on the Senate floor when Duckworth brought her.[62][63]

In 2012 her opponent, Republican Joe Walsh, said about her:
“Big deal. Wounded vet. What else has she done?”

She beat him 55% to 45%.

right to take a knee.

I'm thinking of taking a knee myself. There's too many unarmed, non-resisting black males and females being shot by cops out there and it just plain needs to be stopped. "too many." One is too many.

But I do not go to see professional sports and besides the seat and aisles are too small to give me a place to do it.

I recall something that the hateful, vile Ann Coulter said about Senator Max Cleland (D-GA), "Just because you fall on a hand grenade and lose three limbs doesn't make you a hero."

I hate that repulsive shrew.
