We can never truly repay the debt we owe our fallen heroes. But we can remember them, honor their sacrifice, and affirm in our own lives those enduring ideals of justice, equality, and opportunity for which generations of Americans have given that last full measure of devotion.

(53,410 posts)All of them are addressed by their title and referred to as Mr. President or President and their last name. All US Presidents retain their title for life.
When we get a woman President she will be addressed as Madame President. For life.

As I would expect, words chosen with thought and expressed with grace.

Missing Obama.

(6,973 posts)citation should indicate whether his actions occurred during his time in office or not. It can be confusing at time, but I do the same for any president except trump. I just call him trump. I never assign him the title of president.

(53,410 posts)Mr. President always. When we get women Presidents the correct way to refer to them or talk about them will be Madame President.
Although in certain instances it is OK to refer to them as former, but it depends on the context. For example if it is needed for clarification.
If the reference is to something President Obama says or does then the title President should be used along with his last name.
I do the same with Trump.

(9,287 posts)When talking about the person to a third party, on the other hand, its appropriate to say, former President LastName. This holds for introductions, as well: A current state governor is introduced as Governor Tom Smith, while youd introduce an ex-governor as former Governor Jim Bell.

As to the creature now infecting the White House, pretty much any invective in any language is appropriate!

(23,968 posts)..."ex" is an individual who has quit something. An ex-boyfriend/girlfirend. An ex-husband/wife. Palin is an ex-governor. Nixon was an ex-president.
I most sincerely hope to be able to refer to Trump as an ex-pRezident.

(9,426 posts)that presidents should be. Unfortunately, we have an orange con man pretending to be president. He will NEVER measure up, not in one term or two terms. He does not have the class, dignity, intelligence or HEART to even come close. The gop got the low class con man they deserve to represent them.

(6,546 posts)but my spirit was uplifted. There is sane compassion left in the world as President O shows through his communications even today. I look forward to hearing and reading his and Michelle's words. They are balm to a troubled heart that is inundated with tRump crud every day.
