A Democratic Congressman Just Brilliantly Exposed The GOPs Racism With One Question
Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) used Paul Ryans words about Trumps racism against him, and asked if Trump is racist, why are Republicans cozying up to him.
Video @ link:
Cleaver said on MSNBCs Hardball, I just wanted to say, Paul Ryan, the Speaker of the House after the president made some comments about Mexican judge, he said, and I quote, this is textbook racism. And the problem is that if thats what it is, why in the world are my colleagues in Congress on the Republican side hugging him?
There are only two possible answers to the question posed by Rep. Emanuel Cleaver. Either Republicans are racist, or they are using racism for political gain which makes them racist. There is no acceptable area in American society where using racism is ok. The idea that Republicans arent racist, but they use racism to appeal to people who are is a cop-out. If a person uses racism for gain, they are racist. If someone like Paul Ryan calls out racist behavior, then continues to support the racist, they are aiding the spread of racism.
If Republicans arent racist, why do none of them stand up to Trump? What is stopping them from confronting the racism of their party? If they need to be racist to win elections, that means that they are members of a racist party.
This is not complicated. Anyone who encourages enables, or practices racism is a racist. Their motives dont matter.
Since Republicans are afraid to stand up to the Racist In Chief, that makes each of them guilty of spreading racism.

(22,791 posts)Trump was not elected with southern support alone. There are just as many anti-immigrants in the rest of the country.

(18,124 posts)yet 'the southern strategy' of the nixon-atwater' team is partially responsible for the slow rise of open white racism that I have experienced in my 50 years of watching ameriKKKan politics and race relations. And that open racism has, so far, culminated in this racist POS potus ameriKKKans now have as their spokesman and enabler.

(22,791 posts)Otherwise it smolders and festers in secret, and the right can pretend we're living in a "post-racial society." The election of Obama brought them out of the woodwork, and though it's not a pretty sight, it makes our work fighting racism much easier when it is so blatantly open and public.

(9,426 posts)He had operatives spreading that racism, to get tRump into the WH. Of course, the gop went along with it, especially once the rubles started flowing to the RNC and to them. It might not be widely recognized here, but overseas the racism is recognized, and abhored. Decent people overseas can not understand why this country is so backward, after all these years. The way the gop treated President Obama was blatantly racist. We had a highly intelligent, affable, part African American president, and the gop could not handle that. Now we have a crass, uncouth, low life in the WH who they accept. He has a family all profiting from taxpayer funds, with million dollar golf trips, hunting trips, business trips yet nothing is done. All rolled together, there is not a brain to be found in the tRump clan. Grifters, all.

(56,828 posts)Democrats are expected to vote against Trump, but if Republicans start following suit, they might get angry tweets directed at them, followed by death threats from crazed Trumpites, and then a potential primary from a Trump supporter. And, even if they lose the primary, the Trumpite may run 3rd Party and split the GOP vote.
So, by not standing up to him, they're condoning his racism.
I think there are some Republicans (a minority) that believe that their party should be more inclusive of minorities, which was the direction they were going under Bush and Rove - Bush received 35% of the Hispanic vote in 2000 and 44% in 2004. But, most of them are more committed to winning re-election in the short-term than in the long-term health of their party.
