1. Possible explanation is Gowdy is scrambling to salvage his reputation.

He will do what ever he thinks, at the time, is best for his legacy. At least that's my take.

since he's not running for re-election, he may try being honest for a change.

He may actually be a better person than the role he played and he cynically played to the base for his own benefit.

Now, remember i said a better person than the role he played. That isn't the same as being a good person. Cynically self-serving behavior is not exactly an admirable trait.

It's actually pretty impressive what he did for his party.

It wasn't a part of who he was before that. He jumped in feet first.

Team player. We recognized it but don't like to reference it in those terms.

gonna pay back the taxpayers for the Hillary investigations? Didn't think so.

So my answer is no, he just doesn't want to end up in a cell.

6. Scary, but Gowdy is turning out to be the only reasonable voice.

He’s not just standing up for just anything Trump says, unlike the rest of the GOP. He seems to be calling out the bullshit. I say “seems” because I don’t trust the slimy little weasel. But I can’t figure out his angle. Maybe it was that he just really, really hated Hillary, so that was his only real focus. Now that he’s on his way out, Hillary is no longer a thing (unless you’re one of ‘those’ people), his reasonable side is showing. Maybe he smart and calculating enough to know better than to jump on the runaway train just before it careens off the cliff. After all, he’s a young guy and still wants to have a career when he leaves this tragic chapter in American history.

Not sure what Gowdy is up to, suddenly defending an actual investigation.

And really dislikes the way Trump is going after the DOJ and FBI.

Yeah, it doesn't square with how he acted for years. But on his way out he's showing something we haven't seen before and it's not gonna line up well.

11. He's trying to give the impression now that he has values

after being a key conspirator in the creation of the false narrative his political party jazzed up against Hillary Clinton.

I can't ignore that. He has already showed us who he is. I don't get he impression he's big on Trump so he's picked this time to quit Congress and can get away with bad mouthing Trump in front of his base. But like Trump, he has invented and perpetuated his own set of major and damaging lies to the people of this country. Notice how fast he dropped his persecution of Hillary as soon as the election was over? Think that would be the case if she had won?

He's full of it.
