California will let Elon Musk sell 20,000 personal flamethrowers

https://www.sfgate.com/business/article/Elon-Musk-can-sell-flamethrowers-California-12955493.php?t=a18473461a

In the coming weeks, some 20,000 people could be walking around with the devices, which resemble toy guns but are capable of emitting flames at least 2 feet long. In California, there will be little to regulate them because lawmakers quietly quashed a bill to rein in recreational fire spitting.

Let’s back up. In December, one of Musk’s companies began selling hats to raise money for its vision of drilling tunnels under urban areas to beat gridlock. Fired up by a positive public response, Musk promised on Twitter that if his Boring Company sold 50,000 hats, it would also begin selling “the Boring Company flamethrower.”

He explained the logic of this merchandising leap in a later tweet: “I know it’s a little off-brand, but kids love it.”

C'mon.

Kid puts some 100% legal (for anyone to buy) gasoline into a Super Soaker (also legal for anyone to buy) and puts a lighter or matches in front of it ... and they're shooting flames 25-30 feet.

Let's not lose our freaking minds over something so trivial/readily available for roughly 50 years.

Parents need to be responsible for their kids not playing with fire ... just as has been the case since ... FOREVER.

I swear, this place sometimes ...

Your support for the product seems to be a bit of a overly-emotional freak-out as well. As much as freak-out at least, as the rest of the thread.

The important thing though, is to justify your own freak-out as righteous merely due to the opinion you hold. I'm certain you have the creative fortitude to justify a distinction lacking a difference.

The place, indeed. Part II.
