Other countries can use non tariff means like restricting loans on imports.

China can cancel 30% of its US orders through government means and never implement a tariff

16. MX has been transitioning from US corn to South American corn

May 2018

MX has been transitioning from US corn to South American corn (mainly from Brazil whose advantage is two, rather than one growing season) which grew almost 1000% last year. Though US corn import to MX grew by just over 5% last year, that was due to the continuing drought.

Brazil is gaining by producing cheaper supplies that offset higher freight costs to Mexico. Once Mexican buyers establish new networks, winning back the business will be tough even if trade relations with the U.S improve in the next administration.

6. Trump will use revenues from tariffs on Mexican goods to pay for his damn wall.

He's always bragged that he would make Mexico pay for the wall, one way or the other, and that what he's doing. Like everything else he does, Trump is not thinking about the consequences of his decisions and how his petty vendetta against Mexico will really hurt the average American. With all the fresh produce and meat, the beverages, textiles, cars and machinery shipped from Mexico, new tariffs on consumer products will hit the US economy.

11. Which in effect means US consumers will be paying for the wall via increased prices on imports.
