I've been fascinated by Avenatti -- alternately dazzled by his competence and then, in turn, fearful he's about to stop just a little too far.
But one thing he's done with aplomb, and finesse, that I believe will have a lasting effect on women's rights and equality. He has mainstreamed Stormy Daniels' and her profession as one that deserves every bit the same respect as any other "career."
I've watched him from early on treat her with respect, and then demand others treat her with respect as well. We've seen him stare down her detractors, and win.
Had either Daniels or Avenatti themselves shown any less apparent integrity and credibility it would never have worked. But they have been up to the task, so it's worked tremendously well.
I can't imagine what feminists would have had to do to get even half the respectability for this woman and her profession that Avenatti has.

(37,648 posts)(unless you're a criminal, I guess). It's not that he was telling people how to think about porn stars, male or female.
He's right. That someone works in porn or the restaurant business or real estate...none of that has to do with credibility. A porn star can be very truthful while a real estate person can be totally corrupt!
And he referenced the fact that she deserves respect as much as any other person. But I don't think he was raising the business of porn to be on a level of some other professions. People are free to think about different professions how they like. And some have thoughts about the morality of certain professions, whether it's porn or other things.
Ghouliani was likening it to prostitution, and implying that someone "like that" couldn't be credible, and "grab her by the p__y" Trump wouldn't have anything to do with that kind of person.
Ghoul then had the nerve to say all Trump's wives had been classy. Melania did some nude modeling, altho high level, I think. And Marla Maples? She'd been having a fling with Trump while he was married. I remember a video being circulated that was in her not too distant past of her jumping up and down on a small trampoline in a room without a supportive bra, and wearing tight clothing - you get the idea. It was soft porn, in a way.

(5,210 posts)or high level (what would make it "high level"???), but -- I don't have much sway over how others see her or even care what others think of her (so I'm not arguing with you). I just can't stand the woman, at all.

(37,648 posts)High level means...the quality of the mag. There's a difference between GQ and Hustler. And the amount of money the model gets. And the photographer. And the skin exposure.
But nudie modeling is still nudie modeling. Some would say Victoria's Secret is not far above that.

(53,410 posts)It has never bothered me in the least when women are sex workers or porn actors. So Ive always defended them when people denigrate them. I defended Stormy Daniels a few times early on but Ive noticed everyone is talking respectfully about her now. Especially women journalists and on MSNBC. Im very pleased about this. I hope the respect continues after all this is over

Who do we have like that? Charm, substance, wit, unabashedly liberal, sharp as a whip?

(22,976 posts)I agree, he is a genuinely interesting personality a snazzily-dressed SoCal attorney, who can clearly fight hard if pressed, but who chooses to standwithout shame or shaming for someone in the adult entertainment industry. The only people he goes after DESERVE to be gone after!
I've really been impressed with HIS respect for her. It's clear, and it shows, and it spreads. Just as disrespect is contagious, I suppose.
